Our county fair will be in 3 1/2 weeks- My daughters steer is a nice looking steer but I think he needs a little more rear.  He is eating and gaining well.  I know there are alot of supplements that you can feed in the last 3-4 weeks, but are any of them able to really help?  They seem pretty expensive.  Thanks in advance for your advice.  This is my daughters last year to show so we wanna do all we can to help.

That's a tall order with the time you have left.  Your best option is to keep the feed consumption going and to work the hair from tail-head to stifle as much as possible.  A good clip job can also really make a difference as well.  Make sure you (or a good fitter) maximize width when you trim the tail, rear, top, stifle, and hock.

I would not add expensive supplements at this point, other than those you can use to add fill and dimension in a three week period (e.g., Winning Fill, Full Tank, etc.)

If the steer has plenty of fat cover SHOWMAXX will add some pop to him.  Only use it if he is fat get started you need 20 days to work.

I have seen this work, I do not know if it will work in 20 days but here goes.
Find a place in the stall where you can put a TV, then at the opposite end put a couch, run the TV for about 6 hours a day, it has worked for most of the country should work in your area as well. ;)

Really if your show is a haired show you can hope for enough hair to give the appearance of more rear, to quote Shakespear "it is what it is" by this time. You may get a little more by feeding supplements but most of them take 30 to 40 days to work fully.

Good luck

Good one VC-  I  like that.  I'm afraid the calf doesn't have enough fat to supplement with showmaxx.  We are a slick show, so cant really do alot with the hair to benefit us.  Savage- what does winning fill/ full tank do?
Thanks all for taking the time to respond.

We use Winning Fill from early on to add gut and to help with appetite and rumen health.  Full Tank (pelleted beet pulp) will also add middle and gut.  Both of these products can do it over a short period of time.  I did not realize you were a slick show, and with the right hair/clip job and a full belly you can really change the way one looks.  At this juncture I just think you have the butt your going to have.  Tell your daughter to have fun and be proud of her calf and the work she has done!

Try feeding him some Stabilized Rice Bran, it wont help his rear-end but it will help you get more finish.

Winning Fill is a Kent Show Feeds product;  Full Tank is made by SunGlo feeds.  Both should be pretty available where you can purchase show feed/products.

or toilet paper

Women is looking in the mirror, says to her husband she would like bigger breast, he tells her to try rubbing toilet paper between them, she ask if he thinks it will really work, he says “well it worked for your rear-end”.

He gets out of the hospital on Monday

yalls smart elic jokes can go on your own topic. what we have is a person whose daughter is fixing to have her last show and yall are coming up with this stupid crap (the jokesters). .  i agree with savaged about feeding the winning fill. and rice bran could make a difference although it would be minor it would make him a little better

yeah I agree.....but honestly, what can you do in three weeks? I wish the OP had come and asked sooner, when maybe we could give some real advice that would have a chance to work.

Push the beet pulp or winning fill.

I'm not sure if you do or not but we exercise our cattle on the hilliest part of our property. Might be kinda dumb but I like to think it works.

Lol makes those show jeans fit better for yall  ;D , but I personally think making them excercise does build them up just like people, we work our lambs up hills and it builds up their hinds and their appitites. So I would try that if I was your daughter and add Purina Honor Show Champion Drive which will build up muscle and trim up the fat which will make that butt look bigger! Good luck

I believe along with the jokes there was some sound advice given. Bootom line if it was not born with it, it is not going to develop one with feed or supplements. Exercise will help shape muscle and maintain muscle, to much will cause it to burn fat. Fill will make the animal appear fuller and deeper I do not see where it is going to increase the size of it rear.

I suggested the Stabilized Rice Bran do to the fact she stated the animal did not have the fat cover to put it on some of the supplements. Thus trying to help them put some cover on the animal. (I like the way the SRB lays fat down)

Bottom line, the animal is what it is, do all you can feed, grooming, exercise wise to bring it in at it's best. If you have done that then you have reason to be proud of your project.

Thanks all for the advice.  I have seen some products advertise to increase muscle when fed for 20 days prior to show, but they are expensive- just over $100.00.  Just didn't want to spend that much money unless someone had a good experience with it.  If I can find some winning fill we will start this asap.  Thanks again.
