I was wondering if Foreplay is consider a calving ease bull.  I was told he was and wanted to hear from some other people that may have used him at some time. Thanks! Also, what type of calf does he producer?  I am learning and he is an older bull so it doesn't hurt to ask right?  thanks ahead of time.

Foreplay was used for calving ease quite a bit.....but I wouldn't call him a pure calving ease bull.  He was impressive in real life....I was at Barry Queen's looking at calves and actually pictured him as a mature bull .....just accidentally had my camera with me and we did it right in his pen.

He's homozygous black and solid and out of a really good cow.  His females made some really productive cows.  He might breed a little big for today's steer market, but who knows what might happen on a little carrier cow.

We had several red calves out of him.  We checked the straws before and after breeding cows and there was no clean up bull used.  Our a.i. pasture is surrounded by a county road or a state highway on all 4 sides so there is no chance of a neighbor bull accident.

What does he do for depth of body? Hair? Bone? Soundess? Was told he would work fairly well on a smaller framed Irish Whiskey cow.

We have a Foreplay heifer that had her first calf in the middle of January.  She had no problems calving and takes good care of her calf.  However, she has very little milk compared to the other mamas.  Sorry to hijack the post but when I saw Foreplay mentioned I thought someone might have some insight about his females.

I have seen many good cows. I dont see him adding depth, bone, or hair. He added style and was stout for his time. Power Plant was never known for bone hair or depth, and Foreplay was out of a real cool Chi based cow who wouldnt bring those to the table either. Could work on a furry midget though.

I showed a Foreplay steers over a decade ago.

I had one inparticular that was very competitive and pretty darn good.

he did get a little big in the end and fiished out 1400#+ (shrunk him a LOT to get a decent show weight on him)

He stayed super sound, had pretty darn good hair, his mother was an older large framed high percentage Maine cow.

I can't remember what I had for breakfast......but I can remember weird stuff like this....BUT, you made me doubt myself, SO I called my ole buddy Barry and asked him.

Foreplay WAS genmark tested homozygous black and is homozygous solid pattern.  I don't know what to tell you on your red ones....I think we had a discussion on here before about 1 out of 100 could be red....but even that would mean you had extremely bad luck.....

He had a full brother named Powerball that was heterozygous black.....  There wasn't another Foreplay bull was there?

We used foreplay years ago on first calf heifers and that was a mistake.  Like JBH said he is not a pure calving ease bull.  Remember one of them came out the side on a simi angus first calf heifer.

I have had Foreplay cows and flushed to him.  He makes good show calf mama cows.  IMO

Pluses:
1) Super correct on feet and legs.  Better than most any clubby bulls you will find today.
2) Larger framed to now use again on some of these small framed "Ohlde type Angus cows" or these small framed clubby fur balls, that need some frame.
3) Big footed.  Many clubby breeders do not understand this term.  Cattlemen do.
4) Good growth.
5) Good milk.  Not great.  Will follow the cow you are breeding to.  Not a holstien, or high maternal milk EPD.
6) Clean and long fronted!
7) Long bodied.  See #2 above.
8) Great square hip placement.
9) Good pelvic size on his females.
10) Big butted, heavy muscled, big topped!
11) Good temperment.
12) Has "The LOOK", and transmits it.
13) Then you can breed his F1 replacements, back to "today's clubby bulls".

Minuses: and why no one (almost), uses him today...
1) NO HAIR!!
2) Moderate bone.
3) Moderate depth of rib at best.  But not pencil gutted like some of the old Chi's (ie Black Power Play, Total Play, etc), and Maine's (ie Power Plant, etc).
4) Too large framed for many cows .

The absolute BEST two cows Ihave ever bred and owned -- you guessed it -- the cow in my Avatar and her full suister 3 years younger.

If I can remember how -- I will insert a fairly decent pic of her at about 6 years old or so, and then the one at 10. She is now 13 and bred to Full Moon. Wish I had 50 of em just like her --

Change her??  HAIR , that's all she is a little lacking on her -- catch a glimpse of her foot size -- if she needs a bigger foot -- I'd hate to see the outcome!

Caution on using Foreplay is fairly simple -- He will pass on the Monkey Mouth gene, and due to Powerplant as his sire -- he WILL pass on Spastic Paresis to his offspring , this cow had a Spastic Heat Wave calf, and a Monkey Mouth by Chill Factor -- so it is my fault -- I pushed the envelope too hard.

She had a Heet Seeker a few years ago that won every thing he went to --

That's my take on Foreplay -- and if Ihad some good sim-angus cows as F-1's, and not too big, he'd be the bull I'd go to even today. Nthard calving, but not for puny hfrs either!

Take care all -- Terry

So how about on this heifer? She is moderate framed, hairy, and way thick. Not sure if she has enough rib for him.

she looks like she should work well with Foreplay, but you could consider newer bulls to.

If Red were here she would probably post this photo. Cathy loved her foreplay cows. I saw this cow in person. Great Depth and had some frame to her. But a great cow.

They make the best mama's!  We never had any trouble calving heifers out of them, but we watched what was on her side carefully.
