This is what I found waiting for me at the barn this morning.  If you notice, in the second picture he is sitting down, that is because I asked him too and he politely obliged.

Obviously he was dumped, we are the haven for dumpers but the thing that really burns me up is, he has collar marks, so he was cared for at some point and the real special part of it all, he has what appears to be a 22 bullet hole on his chest.  As a veterinary technician I saw many wounds exactly like this, in the same place and when there was an xray, bullet.

As much as I hated to, because he was a big sweetie, I took him to the shelter because sweetie or not, he is a pit bull.  Too many barn cats, another dog and baby calves, that being a pit bull, he would eat.  Might I add his head was as big as our two month old calf's head.

Sorry, I had to vent and there was no one here to vent too.  Just makes me mad that people think because we are in the country we will take any stray that shows up.  Come to think of it, all the animals that are here were former strays that were dumped or offspring of them.

  Those kind of people need to be "thrown" out on the streets without food or water and see how it feels.  I know you feel bad, but you did the right thing.

The stray thing makes me mad too; But what about the ones that don't take care of their animals and thinks when some thing happens to 1 of then that they need to get another 1.

This is the perfect thread for me to vent about the same type of problem.  I have had dogs all my life...many different breeds and many different levels of intellegence to say the least!  My better half's boss, has a heeler/collie cross.  This dog LIVES in a small house, and a 40x40 fence, in the city.  This dog is NEVER walked, NEVER allowed out of the fence or house, and has no other dogs as companions.  She has a high level of energy (who wouldnt in her living conditions), and they claim she has Anxiety problems because her eyeballs show white (like a horses when they are nervous)....but ALL the time, and she charges and barks at basically anything that moves or comes near her.  So, this is a 50lb herding-bred dog, living mostly indoors, and does not have enough space to even break out in a full run.  They say she has anxiety....well of COARSE she has anxiety!!!  She has been living like this for 3-5 years!!!  AARRRGGG.  The frustration!  They tell me that her full sister is totally calm, and they dont know why.  The dogs sister lives on a farm.  These people have actually mentioned that they are thinking of putting this dog down because of her anxiety problems, and because her behavioral problems are worstening, and she has now started to bark at her own owners.
I watch the dog training shows, and I dont by any means consider myself a pro, but Im sure even a Troll could figure this case out.
I, myself, have a Miniature Pinscher.  He is very obedient, but will chew on any small item he can get in his mouth.  He, however, only does this when he hasnt been exercised for a week or so.  It is -30-48 here now so that is not much of an option, and I am not spending $300 on a tredmill for my dog...haha.  When I go to my parents farm, he gets the run of the place, we come back to our place in town, and he sleeps for a week.  All because he healithy (sp) got a load of exercise!!  Dogs of all breeds and sizes are meant to run, and play, and track and sniff, and have a lot of endurance.  I dont see how ANY large dog should live permanently indoors/in a fence if they are not getting exercised as much as possible.
I see this all too often.  As a matter of fact our neighbour across the street has two large dogs.  A gorgeous Retriever, and piranese (sp).  The dogs are limited to short chains.  I saw that the one was on about 6 feet, and had ripped up the grass so that it looked like a dirt track, and I watched it run circle after circle on this chain.  They too, bark at ALL movement and sound.  I have not ONCE seen these dogs walked.  I am willing to bet that the owner has the nerve to call those dogs stupid and unruly too.
This just disgusts me.  I hear about this all too often.  I see and hear dogs in their "dog runs" RUNNING violently, and notice the path they have worn from pacing the fence time after time.  I listen to people talk about their dumb labs and retrievers and collies that they have living in their homes.  Im not sure about you...but there are not a lot of dumb dogs of those breeds, and if so, they are dumb because the owner pretty much made them.  People get those dogs, thinking they will be great companions for theyre children, but they are never let out of the house.
It doesnt sicken me that these people are allowed to have dogs, it just sickens me that they cannot figure out that all the dog needs is a damn good run every once in a while.  Outside of living quarters.
It is like asking you to live, work, eat, sleep, exercise, shower, cook, and clean....in your bedroom, for your entire life.  Valium would become extinct, wouldnt it?

That was a great vent, thanks to all who actually read it, and understand with me.

Three "S's" for whoever dumped him.  I have started working this winter, part time, for a local mixed Veterinary practice.  The clinic is the "official" euthanasia center for the county humane society.  Even though it's surely preferable to dumping, I hate that so many animals have been born/bred without any planning for the offspring on the part of the owners.  I, too, can get VERY angry about the whole mess!

I have met many more ANIMALS with PEOPLE problems
than I have PEOPLE with ANIMAL problems.

People that dump animals should die a slow, starving painful death.

It seems like we are a stray haven as well.  The thing that drives me nuts is most of these dogs are really good and all they want is to be loved by a human!  My wife loves dogs as do I.  I often joke that I am the low man on the totem pole.....My wife, my daughter, our heeler/collie mix and finally I fit in.  By the way Bawndoh I agree....anybody who thinks they can make a collie/heeler cross happy by confining them is absolutely crazy.  My dog has to work!  If she doesn't get to work she is a handful!  I call it OCD.

We usually take the dogs in until we can find a good home for them.  We always take them into our vet and have him run some behavioral tests to make sure that there is nothing wrong with the dog.  BTW, this is spearheaded by my wife who is most definitely my better half!

That is sickening someone would do that to a dog.  Most of those people who become serial killers start out by being cruel to animals.

"Brinx" as I found out the big sweetie is named wasn't dumped at all.  Some neighbors that we had never met before came in looking for him this morning.  Come to find out, the guy rescues dumped animals and now I have his name and number so we can call if anything else shows up.  Apparently Brinx slipped his collar and took off night before last and somehow ended up here.
