Hogs for us was January to early February, lambs Were late December, January, our show was first week of July. I think it is easier to hold a lamb or goat but I hate holding hogs for very long, would rather just feed right up to show. There are more product out there now then what we had when the boys did to help keep a hog looking right. To me it seams hogs can go from 12:00 to 4:00 overnight if everything is not just right. We shot for 6 months on the hogs, but I'm sure certain genetics will play into each case.

We raised our own hogs, had a litter born on Feb 20th, from that litter we had a gilt hit 200 pounds on May first, she literally was on a 2 ADG from birth. We had to hold her and she weighed 288 that June 28th. We always figured it was how we weaned them, the sow left the pen and they stayed right were they were born, they never got that weaned look to them and the stress from weaning lasted a day or 2 at best.
