Possible show steers for next year- what do you think?
« on: March 15, 2010, 10:27:09 PM »
These are three steers I am debating on buying for next year. The first two are a Carnac steer  The next is a Heatwave steer , and the last is a manchild steer

Cant tell too much about them from the pictures but if those were your only three choices, I would go with the Carnac hands down.

Carnac for sure

Like to see the Manchild from the side, Heatwave is defiantly out, I like the Carnac, but he cuts up in the flank and has a really high tail set.

Were trying to spread our options out- these are from a sale not three miles from us, and I like the Carnac alot! The heatwave didn't impress me, and the Manchild is nice too. Here is the pic of the manchild from the side:

i don't know what i am missing in the heatwave steer, but from the pictures he is the only one i would buy. that carnac is way too straight and it isn't gonna get better as he grows. maybe if i saw another picture of the manchild then i would pick him but the heatwave has room to grow. i guess it depends on how competitive you are trying to be.

now that i see a side shot of the manchild i would pick him. i still think you could feed the heatwave and he would look decent as a fat.

The Heat Wave is really sloppy fronted and high flanked, I like the Manchild but he seems to be more tubular at this point, if he bellies down he will be really nice steer.

I like the carnac steer.  He isn't too high flanked.  I think it is the white in his flank that makes him look that way in the picture.  The manchild steer is ok but not sure he will be deep enough and I don't care for the heatwave at all as a show steer.  He looks like a good growing fat steer but has no balance.

Why yes they would! lol, would you perhaps be someone in charge of the sale? If so, I must say that these calves are quite nice! I can't judge calves worth a darn, and I like these three best. Hope you don't mind?

No I'm not in charge but know the people quite well. I live in the same county. When I went by I liked the Lot 61 Heatwave the best (unclipped) but this pic really doesn't do him any justice. The Carnac is probably the best calf right now " if " he will get big enough he will be the best in the end. I may go by tomorrow and look them over again. One of my good friends is helping clip them.
