Precon vs cotton seed hulls
« on: October 28, 2021, 02:07:31 PM »
So we have a yearling heifer that we are trying to drop her flank and get more belly.  The breeder told me to up her cottonseed hulls to 4 scoops and give 2 scoops of precon.  I was given advice from a nutritionalist to switch those....2 scoops CSH and 4 precon.  Thoughts??

Try beet pulp to drop the flank.  Is that in addition to a heifer grower ration?  If the breeder has partial interest or is helping, I would not discount their advice.  If you change the recipe or go against what they say, why would they help you down road?

Keep the breeder updated, it helps with the relationship.

Yes along with a grower ration, we do purina fitters edge.  Definitely will start beet pulp too!

Nothing probably helps as well as unlimited free choice long stem hay. Precon is wonderful, but long stem first cutting hay is invaluable.
