To start this off, it has been a long summer.  From heifers getting sick, cows dying, to other things out of our control.  Through the thick and thin, my two have hung in there and that culminated this past weekend at the Missouri State Fair.  My sons heifer could have had a better show in the ring, but they both earned plenty of fans outside of it. They earned many purple and pinks this summer.  From his work with the stick to how his heifer looked......the effort is starting to pay off in spades.  My daughter on the other hand has had a rough summer in the ring with her heifer.  If love equated to banners, she would have had a pile of them.  The % bull that she raised had a better summer bringing home multiple purples throughout the summer, including Grand 4-H Simmental Bull at the state fair.  However, the highlight was when my wife called to tell me that my daughter had sold her bull out of the stall.  While we had a for sale sign on him most of the summer and had multiple "tire kickers", this phone call was a surprise to say the least.  It was the highlight of the summer to hear about my daughter pulling the trigger on the sale of her own bull.  She grew up quite a bit in a short 24 hour period.  Her involvement in the American Junior Simmental Association no doubt helped her seal the deal on this transaction.  While she didn't make the cut in the sales talk competition in KS this past June, what she was able to do this past weekend more than made up for that.  I am attaching a couple of pictures of her bull at his last show in Sedalia.  I hope that his new owners enjoy having him in their pasture as much as we did.

Congratulations!

What a fantastic story.  I would be proud too!  Hell, I AM proud of her...and I don't even know her.

Great job.

Thank you TC1!  I appreciate the kind words.  Always nice to hear those things from people that know what it takes.

Larissa -  thank you as well.  He is a Cut Above son out of a Lucas bred cow.  I think,  if you hit the blue link right below the pic (pdf file)  there should be a profile shot.  Enjoy hearing what people think!

That bull is even better in person! Great to hear how well things went for her. Of course, the experience she gets from YOU along with the contests in the AJSA helps.
Great job Coach, on raising two great kids and helping them learn what success in the show ring really means!

Thank you DBL.  Mark T- yes he does have a helluva hip on him.  Really followed after his sire on that one.  He really has grown out well for an end of October calf,  we thought.  Thank you for the props as well.
Thank you for the kind and generous words as well FSweep!  We try to help the kids get along the best we can.  Sometimes they surprise us by actually practicing what we preach!  Ha
