I know everyone has their own preference on wat works good to give desired belly fullness. Wether it be beet pulp, cottonseed, etc.  I am going to try beet pulp this time on spring born calves that will be sold thus sept.    How many pounds should each calf get to get them to belly down.  Thanks.

Your calves should be eating grain, 3 to 4lbs. of body weight daily. I hope you don't intend to feed nothing but Beet Pulp.

I think that these calves are to small/young for beet pulp yet. I think that precon or something similar would be a much better choice. JMO

1/2 pre con 1/2 feed would work better for young calves we only feed beet pulp when cattle are on their second trip around showing as breds- it's pre con the first year

I use the pre con with grain now, but have mixed a little moist beet pulp with feed for the creep fed calves in the past and it worked really well.  Animals of all species like moist feed.  You'll have to mix it daily, though, if you use damp beet pulp.  The fastest growing calves I ever raised were fed a mixture of cracked corn, oats, protein, and beet pulp.  The medicated pre con is working very well this year.  Most of the people that show around us are using it in their yearling show cattle, too.

Thanks for yalls opinions.  So is pre con supposed to be better for calves than cottonseed hulls.  I have allways had good luck feeding beet pulp to yearlings with good results.  Im just not used to feeding calves this age.
