Heard this morning Chopper and one other bull were hurt.  The facilities are in bad shape.  The semen tanks are good.  That's the extent of what I was told.

I am a lineman for Stillwater Power so I have an idea where the track of the tornado was. I haven't been in that area but I don't think they would have taken a direct hit. Probably debri from nearby. I found letters from a town 50 miles away in my pasture. Yesterdays storms were bad.

Called and checked on my donor cows this morning.  They told me all the females are fine and a few of the bulls had to go to the vet.  All the main structures r fine.  Just some of the out buildings and sheds got beat up.

Heard today that a bull stud outside of Oklahoma City was hit by a tornado...and some bulls were messed up.  Anyone know anything about this?

Will Chopper be able to recover, or will he be put down?
from the picture I saw on Matt Lautner's site, even though the injury is grotesque, it's a flesh wound.  If a vet can't help him heal from that, he's a poor vet.  It will be a long road to recovery.  Depending on the financial aspect of it, they may put him down, but not as a result of whether he'll heal.  If the healing has problems, it wound be due to troubles with wound care.  For the sake of the bull and for the love of animals, I hope does not have to be put down, but due to the financial atmosphere in the United States right now, if his semen bank is large enough and the demand is predictable, it would be understandable if he was put down, as the vet costs may become absorbant.

I wish Chopper, his owners and all that like/love him, the best and pray for the best outcome. :-\

I imagine the OSU vets will take care of him.  That's who REI uses.  Costs on that wont be that high, just a whole bunch of stitches.  Just a matter if they can keep infection out.

The good thing about Chopper's injury is that the way he was cut, when they sew him up, the sore will be able to drain well. Anti biotics and keeping the fly load under control will be the main things to attend to during his recovery.
