Report on Maternally Yours and A Step Up calves

I know everyone is always asking about experience or how calves look out of newer bulls. I will post two heifers born this year at my place. one is a Maternally Yours ( Socked heifer). She was born at 65 pounds. The other is A STEP UP heifer ( blaze/baldie). I know hes not new but he is newer! She was born unassissted out of a first calf Grizzly heifer at 91 pounds born 10 DAYS EARLY!

Was the Step Up bulky and big shouldered or slim shouldered and sleek? That's just as big of factor as BW, IMO. Good calves by the way! Both should make good heifers!

she was big headed and big hipped. The calf is very nice but Im not pleased at all considering the bull is supposed to be such a calving ease bull and the heifer was 91 pounds and born 10 days early. I would have hated to see the calf born on the due date and a bull

Having Grandmaster as his sire should help with calving ease, but Macho on the dam side can make for some big calves. Our Macho dam always throws huge calves compared to the others in the herd. That said, the dam has more to do with the size of the calf than the sire. Looking at his numbers, I would use him on a heifer, but that is why I like to wait to hear reports of how others get along...
