I left home wednesday morning headed west (out to cowboys) with one cow in my trailer, by the time I reached the Nebraska border I had accumulated 8 donor cows for Terry to work on. Pulled into his place wednesday night about 8:30 and unloaded, ate supper, chatted a while and headed for bed. Got up Thursday morning and headed for Billings, MT to Genex to pick up a bull I had bought in Canada that was there being collected, rolled into Billings about 9:00 pm and checked into a hotel.  Friday morning I was at Genex at 6:45 to pick up semen and load the bull. Hit the road at 7:30 and headed south on 90, at about Hardin, MT I started seeing snow. About 20 minutes into the southward trip it really starts snowing and my speed drops to about 20 mph. Long story short by the time I got to Sheridan, WY they were closing 90 behind me but the snow was letting up some. Finally ran out of it about 40 miles north of Wheatland, WY. where I headed East back into NE. Met cowboy in North Platte for supper and to pick up a buckskin gelding I had bought from him and headed on East. Stopped for the night in Kearney, NE and kicked it on home the next morning. From about 9:00am wed to 1:00 pm Saturday I ran about 2600 miles, not sure I'm as young as I used to be! I will post some pictures when me, the bull and horse have had a chance to recover from the road trip! RW

RW, sounds like you had quite a trip! That storm system you mentioned is a big one. It just started here yesterday with much needed rain, but it has turned to snow today. Fortunately the snow is melting as it hits the ground so we are not white, but it sure could be by morning. I have used more straw in the past two days than I did in the past two months. These road trips can be fun, but they are also very tiring. It is sometimes great to get away, but it is always great to get home again. The older I get, arriving home is even better.

I have a trip coming up this week as well. Loading bulls from our bull sale on Wednesday or Thursday and heading for SW Iowa. Then over to Hawkeye to pick up a bull then back over to the Pitzer Ranch in Nebraska to pick up a horse a friend purchased in their recent sale. Sounds like this horse is a pretty special one so I am looking forward to seeing it. I have hauled a couple horses back from Pitzer's on my last couple of trips through that country.

Looking forward to seeing some of your pictures soon.

RW--- sounds like you had quite a trip.  Hope that horse is better mannered than Cowboy!!  Ha! Ha!

Remember JIT---paint your cell phone number on the back of the trailer before you leave--- wouldn't want you to lose that Pitzer horse somewhere in the Dakotas!!

This all sounds like a Hollywood style adventure/comedy/modern western in the making. Starring  Road Warrior, Cowboy and Justintime. Oakbar you can direct all the Dakota scenes.

Oakbar... haha... I must get that done! I am taking my steel trailer on this trip. It is bigger but it is also older than my aluminum. I will definitely be carrying padlocks, tie chains... and a bolt cutter ( for when I lose my keys)

JIT - I hope the weather in MT/WY is better for your traveling. You're absolutely right that it is good to get away but also good to get back home. I wish I would have had more time to spend out there and spread the driving out over more days. If you were coming to S E Iowa we would try to get togather.
Oakbar - Yes the horse is much better mannered than old cowboy ;D !
Telos - You get the financing for the movie and we'll be ready to shoot, it has to pay better than ranching!
Great to be home, hope the weather straightens up soon! RW
