Why does it seem that all the sexed heifer semen is from simmital bulls? I am looking to buy some sexed heifer semen from a Maine bull where can i find some?

the best heifer semen out there is dr. who but you'd have to use him on a purebred maine to get a mainetainer female.

Actually that isn't correct, Dr. Who on a purebred will give you a high%  female.  I'm not sure about others, but I do know they have sexed semen on Gigolo Joe.

Fertility and demand.  Bulls need to be very fertile to be sexed as the semen goes through added stress when sexed.  Same reason there's not many clubby bulls sexed, not many have semen quality or vigor.

I'm not sure on the cost, Juli Nelson could answer that for you, Gigolot Joe could be, but Dr. Who could not be papered unless he was bred to a papered cow.

I would like to breed her to a simmital bull but I would have to regestier her calf as a simangus and most shows don't have a simangus division. If I breed her to dr. Who what could I regestier her calf as?

Zak, your cow would have to be registered as, at least, a 1/4 Maine cow with the AMAA for you to be able to register the calves sired  by Dr. Who.  You will need to use at least a 1/2 Maine bull to be able to register the calves.

Check out the Maine Anjou upgrade chart at http://www.maine-anjou.org/upgrade.html

im not 100% sure on this but i think dr who is a 3/8 maine which i think means you could register the heifer as a 1/4 maine. that would get you your maintainer papers i think.

Most shows may not have a Sim/Angus class, but nearly all of them have low percentage Sim classes[50%] or Foundation Sim classes.

For a heifer they only have to be a 1/4, for a steer the rule is they have to be out of a registered 1/2 blood Maine bull (never have really understood that policy) anyway, if you look at the chart on the Maine website Dr. Who would have to be bred to a registered cow to have registered off spring, bred to a commercial he is not paperable.

Gigilo Joe is $130 for the 2 million and Dr. Who is $350 for the 5 million. (Both prices are as of last spring)

Dr. Who's would not be registerable Maine out of your cow.  Gigilo Joe would register 1/2 Maine.

They don't have any 2 million on Dr. Who, just the ET quality 5 million stuff.

These are the only two Maine bulls that I know of.  If you here of any more Maine bulls, I would be interested as well.

Ok, tell me what I am missing here, I have included the upgrading chart right off of the AMAA website, the way I am reading this Dr. Who is a 3/8 bull so the lowest the cow side could be is 1/4 to still be registered a Maintainer, the cow he is breeding has no Maine in her and is not registered, how are you coming up with a calf that could be registered?  The only option I see for a Maintainer calf would be Gigolo Joe.
