Hi, does anybody know of any shorthorn sires that will make good show females, but still have good calving ease? Any advice would be welcome.

I have had good luck with Jake's Proud Jazz. I have a really nice heifer out of him and a first calf heifer. ALM Chiller is also a bull with lower birthweights. I have a very nice cow out of him that did quite a bit of winning when she was a show heifer.

JPJ comes as close to anything in the breed, but he needs to be bred to bigger framed cows, maybe a little chubbier with more brisket than some like but they should make really nice cows.

I really like some of the Proud Jazz calves. Chiller is supposed to be calving ease, but I have never had any of my own, like the ones I have seen. Tonic works well, better on some lines than others. TM Gus seems to be making some pretty good calves, talk with Stumpy on here, he will be able to fill you in on the particulars. Yes, it is harder to find a shorthorn with a low BW that will still throw you a "show heifer", but it can be done, it does happen.
