In the late 60's there was a Shorthorn breeder in N Eastern Kansas. By Oskaloosa to be more specific. He had more of the dual purpose Shorthorns and became quite popular during the frame era. I got a blue roan from his herd but can't remember his name. Does anyone remember this breeder.

Mark was that the last name; Marvel? All I know is that there was a rush to get his genetics and if I remember he was an older gentleman.  My steer was champion at the Oklahoma State Fair and Tulsa State Fair in 68. I know, sounds like Ancient History 101.

HUBS are in North West Kansas - I 'll be there in a couple of weeks.
The popularity for HUBs was closer to the 80's - but if your calf was horned good chance they had a role in it because they liked heavier muscled cattle then what they could find in the polled.
The name HUBs came along when Virgel's daughter married - before that I think it was a HHKA prefix. They still line breed and run about 100 cows some Durham Red matings too. They calve in late Feb/March and wean in December. The cattle are not small framed and have alot more rib then the average SH operation
I attached two full brother/sister that are out of a HUBs cow X Captain Obvious. Let me know if you need Steve's cell number.

Jim Mitchell was over here in this part of the woods and raised horns about that time. He had a property here South of Denison and lived in Ozawkie after they moved the town to make room for the lake. (or should I say, silt pond)

The name Jim Mitchell sounds very familiar. Thanks. Would anyone know what his prefix was?
