A baldy hfr that sold up here this past fall just brought 64,000 down south somewhere from what I was told. Pretty reliable source but never know when you hear second handed. Our cows are nothing special and he gave us our most consistent set of simmi calves since a bull we bought from 3C in 1993! I have seen probably 60 hd and they all seem to be very useful cattle. One heifer paid for our semen package and made us money, so yes i think he will work.  Oh and as I have said on here before we bred him to every kind of cow we had. One Maine cow had a 107 lb calf but she weighs about 2000. Avg weight on our calves was 91 lbs on mature cows, never touched one.

Thanks for the info jackpot.  I know for me this information helps a bunch as he's one I've been eye balling but could never afford him.  A couple of questions if you don't mind - 1). What type of cow did he work best on?  2).  What type of frame does his cattle have?

He seemed to work best on deeper bodied, moderate framed cows.He will put some depth on a shallower made cow, but won't make her calf a ground sow by any means. Like I said in a previous post, he will breed to the cow on front ends. Some of the best calves I have seen out of him have been out of Angus cows. I think we would work well on OCC and Duff genetics. He downsized our cows a little on frame, but you have to take into consideration that our cows our huge for most people.  For us he bred a lot like his daddy, but gave us tick more muscle and a lot more depth.

We had our first Upgrade born on the place Sunday.  Recip cow was several days past due and was a carryover open from the prior spring (shifted back to fall herd)...I know, not supposed to do that, but she got a break!

We had induced her due to being past due.  The calf was presented upside down with his head on the bottom.  The vet got him flipped around, but with the abnormal presentation, the cow didn't dialate well.  We had a tight fit, but got him out in good shape.  Moderate 86# birthweight and he looks good.

Just sharing our first experience.  Weight was right what we'd normally expect.

We just purchased a NLC bull. He is 15 mos old. I looked at him on hilly ground and when I got him on the trailer I realized he was a small frame score bull. I questioned the man when I picked him out and was told he was a 5.5 frame. He actually a small 5. He is thick, good boned, excellent temperment. He also had a good scrotal and extreemly high semen motility.

NLC Upgrade is the real deal. Calves are functional, they grow, and they have style. I will use him for the third year in a row this year. He is one of the most consistent sires I have used of any breed. His calves come easy enough but I still would not reccommend on heifers. Second calvers and cows would be best. I have two yearlings in the lot right now out of him and they are by far my best. In my experience he will improve pretty much any cow he is used on.
