Only had 3, but all were unassisted at birth,106lb bull, 80lb bull, 93lb heifer. Love 2 of the 3. The heifer is in the keeper pen and is a top pick to be the best, the 106lb bull is being kept as the clean up bull. The other bull was sold with mom, not my favorite cow so did not really like her bull calf. Got a couple more coming this year too.

So Frostback , would you say he's throwing larger calves at birth or is that normal for your cattle ? I personally want nothing to do with any calves over 90 lbs .

We only had one this year out of a first calf heifer. She was born on her due date and had a 60 pound birth weight.

Birthweights from 60-106lbs.  He's obviously not very consistent in terms of birthweight.  A good cattleman would expect the transmission of other traits to have that same level of inconsistency. Not a bull I would want to use.

I think I would find out if he's that inconsistent in birth weights within one cattle operation before making any judge. We all know environment, feed and weather can affect birthweights especially in the last few months of gestation.

No, not in my herd.
Here are the BW of the cow that had the 106lb bull. She is by Grandmaster out of a cow that is a sister to Combustible's Mum.

Not sure of the pedigree of the one that had the 93 and I am not looking it up. Has Dream On in there.
65lb bull by Grandmaster
85lb bull by Chopper
86lb bull by Chopper
88lb bull by Upgrade

The last cow is a Meyer 734/Angus
She has been bred clubby mostly
108lb bull by Monopoly II

I never had to help any of these cows at calving. All unassisted.
