Slick Shearing

Just curious about slick shearing a couple heifers.  I live in the NW and have a couple heifers I'm putting in a sale the beginning of May, not a show animal kind of sale. Since we have mud all winter I thought maybe slick shearing them would be the easiest way to get them cleaned up and presentable.  My question is how long before the sale should I shear them?  Thanks and have a great day!

I'd say you probably need to get on it right away.  We slicked a heifer last spring in late Feb/early March.  It takes awhile for the hair to come back and it will be somewhat uneven when it does.  So you will want enough growth that you can actually clip on it a little to get it looking right again.
