Some new Simmy faces
« on: March 26, 2013, 07:12:03 PM »
Only had one all black calf so far this year. Usually i get either chrome,  solid black or full face baldys,  but i like these with just enough too!

I agree about the luck! Wish ours had more blaze faces. We even had a Steel Force embryo bull calf born in Feb that is solid black. His flush mates have the cutest white faces, and once is a red heifer (VERY NICE!) but no white on her face. Of course, we don't own any of those calves, just the solid black one. But, he is NICE, and if I ever thought of keeping a bull around to clean up, he would be the one. He might stick around a few years before we sell him, he is that nice.  ;D
But, back to the original thread, we really love any kind of white on the face. It just seems to give them character!

Now last year was a flop for me in the color dept,  first year in a long time and i cant explain it!  These calves are all out of a blaze face Optimus Prime son. Im very pleased so far. He seems to be keeping the noses black on the black baldy calves too,  which to some is not an issue at all but i prefer them that way.

That's kinda weird...it seemed like we couldn't make a baldy last year no matter what we used! Almost every calf was solid black. This year, we got blazes on pretty much every calf that could have had a blaze! It's funny how that works...

Looking forward to this fall... I have a bunch bred to a new Shear Pleasure x Sure Bet bull we call Tux N Tails...white face, white belly, white tail, and white feet. And black on both eyes... I'll be disappointed if he doesn't make baldies and blazes on every mating!

Do you have a picture of Tux n Tail's?

Do you have a picture of Tux n Tail's?

I don't yet. I bought him last fall at zaGibbs in Alabama, and he went out with cows pretty soon after we got him home. He ran with cows all winter and changed herds March 10, and he'll clean up a small group of early spring calvers. I plan to get some good pictures of him later in the summer, once he's had a little rest, and if the calves are what we expect, we'll probably collect him this fall before he goes out with cows again. The first babies are due early September.

He's a Shear Pleasure out of a blaze-faced Dikemans Sure Bet cow, so he's baldy on both sides. I wanted the one with the most white so he'd make baldies on Angus cows, and I actually thought he was the best bull of the four ET brothers. The one solid black and two other baldy brothers brought more money--his brothers sold from $6000 to $8750--and I think a lot of that was color. But I wouldn't expect any of them to throw the % of baldies and blazes I think this bull will make. We'll see...

We have a remmington lock n load calf that is a baldy with a black eye. Most of the lock n load calves i've seen so far have had a blazr or baldy face which I like a lot. I agree it gives them more character. We have two more lock n loads due this sept. a hiefer and a bull that I hope have white on them

Haven't seen many LocknLoad calves around but the few i have look pretty darn good!  Just wish the semen price was a bit more feasible!
