Elm Creek 4-H Beef Club would like to thank all the people on SP who volunteered their services for our clubs scavenger hunt at Canadian Western Agribition.  (clapping)  The kids really enjoyed meeting you all and getting your "autograph" was a pretty big deal. Lots of talk on the bus about a Herford bull named Youtube! Would also like to thank all the people who spent time with the kids teaching the tricks of the trade. A lot of tips were given on how to judge and we really appreciate you sharing your wisdom with them! You know who you are... :)  It was a unanimous vote that we have to go again in 2 years ! THANK YOU! <beer>  On a side note, I spent a lot of time in the Shorthorn barn and really liked what I saw. Hope you share some of your show string pictures soon!!  <party>  <party>  <party>

I would like to echo what Vanridge has posted.  As well as a parent we spoke to alot of people that I would consider to be a great influence on my kids.  Especially a few young women who my daughters now think are the "coolest" people they know and I am fine with that.  Thanks for taking the time to share your knowlege with these young people!!!!!

That was one of the instances.  I have also heard "but Dad, You Tube........" and also "but Dad, Jaimie said" a couple times since we got home.

I'm glad you and your 4-H members liked You Tube! If he wouldn't have been so tired I would have let the members play around with him and stuff. He is an absolute puppy! It was really nice meeting everyone!

It was great seeing all of you at Agibition. I thought everyone looked like they were having a great time.. big kids and little kids alike. Larissa's YouTube Polled Hereford bull was a good one and I was happy to see him sell for a good price in the sale. I'm sure the kids in the Elm Creek 4-H Club will have fond memories of this trip for the rest of their lives.

I just thought I would share with y'all that both my boys had to share a report with the class about their trip to Agribition. Our 8 year old apparently gave a very informative report with a lot of humour mixed in (according to the teacher) and our 10 year old spent 1/2 hour infront of the class sharing his adventure and answering questions. The teacher quizzed him and he ended up telling the class what cattlemen look for in a good cow/bull etc. This is the kid who takes after his father and usually says very little! He came home pretty excited because he was surprised how many of the questions he could answer and they got to miss Social Studies!

The kids had a great time meeting people and learning.  While watching one of the shows my 8 year old came over to me and pointed to one of the heifers in the ring and stated that she didn't like it.  When I asked her why she said "because her tailhead is too high".  I guess they do learn things even when we don't think they are paying attention to us.

Last night when I got home my 10 year old had the catlouge from the Shorthorn sale in her school back pack.  Her math assignment was to make a list of items and prices of things she could buy for a million dollars, so she was making a wish list of cattle that she would like to purchase.

I am very thankful that my kids can enjoy working with cattle and the positive influences of the people we have met in the cattle business.
