Watch the turkey pardoning on Wed.
« on: November 24, 2013, 10:23:10 PM »
My good friends John and Joni Burkel and their family will  be presenting two turkeys to Pres. Obama on Wed.   John and Joni are turkey growers from Badger, MN(about as far north as you can get without being Canadian) and they are great ambassadors for agriculture and the rural lifestyle.   John spends many days each year traveling to Washington D.C. and other areas(all of which are not an easy commute from Badger) to defend animal agriculture and  better educate the policiticians, regulators, etc. about the unique needs and qualities of the animal protein industry.   He is certainly not a big supporter of Obama, but I am happy that he and his family will represent the turkey industry and animal agriculture.  They have included the entire Badger senior class(15 strong) in the adventure and they are all touring D.C. the next couple of days before the presentation ceremony.   I'm sure they are providing an educational experience to these young people that will endure throughout their lives.   My hat's off to John and Joni and I'm proud to call them my friends.

There are numerous videos online about the MN turkey grower and his family presenting the Thanksgiving turkey to the President so feel free to browse if you have more interest.   Its really quite interesting!

It is very seldom that ambassadors for agriculture receive some of the recognition they deserve. Thanks Lynn for posting this. Thanks also to the Burkel family for all they do for animal agriculture. Maybe some one should tell Obama to wear a hat so everyone can see which is the real turkey!

It has been difficult for many in our industry to provide a turkey for a very unpopular man in the White House the last few years.  Telling one turkey from another has been mentioned before but I'm not sure its fair to the real turkeys to make that comparison.

I have to say that in some ways I find I  the "Toronto Turkey" less onerous than I do to the "White House Turkey".  At least he's mildly entertaining, only affects one city, and is easily stripped of his power!!

If Obama....or even Clinton....ever had the desire to be Prime Minister of Canada I suspect the whole election process in Canada would be set aside....either one of them would win in a landslide.
Bush??....not so much!
