What to flush her to?
« on: November 27, 2012, 04:50:33 PM »
Hey guys this is a triple bred wyoming wind female that I showed back in 2010. We were the junior division champion at houston and never lost a class with her. She is obviously in her working clothes and we dont feed our cows. I'm thinking about flushing her heatwave or solid gold and then breeding her jimmy the greek or smiling bob. What do yall think?

is that the yellow jacket son tusa bought out of kent stewarts sale a few years back? I like him. and you guys are correct. I'm looking to flush to a bull that I think will make good ones and be easy to sell. Then breed her another way to get ready for next year and another option. The monopolys down here typically arent shapely enough to slick super well. That being said this cow is a real pretty super smooth cow smooth jointed and sound. Pencil fronted and big hipped she could use more behind her shoulders but has bred with more power than expected. Thats why I was thinking heatwave type sons with the exception of monopoly. I would breed MAB before Monopoly down here even though he is a monopoly son. Shooting for steers with the flush.

Yes that is the calf Tusa bought. The neat deal about him is he is super stout, moderate and has two super cows close in his pedigree. Give kent stewart or James Rathman or James Davis a call they have seen him lately. He will throw steers that will slick and I think the daughters will make cows

If you want them big hipped & stout down south be careful using Monopoly. Remember he is 1/2 angus.  Yes, he has raised alot of good ones.  The cows you breed him to better be stought.

After seeing groups of calves this fall- Walks Alone is on my short list. Another bull that seems to click with  smokes is My Turn. I also like Bob Mays bull Point Taken.
Life is too short....don't sweat the small stuff.

I would agree with Walks Alone that was mentioned above and there are other options as well.  Not to derail your thread, The Lifejacket bull is very interesting and he is one of our bulls at Embry Cattle located outside of Waco in Central Texas.  The Lifejacket bull is very moderate and low to ground for a Yellow Jacket.  He's really big ribbed as well with a great shape to his ribcage as well.  Really square built and powerful and as sound as you can get one.

As a bonus, he's double clean by pedigree so he can be used on anything.  We put him out to clean up on a few cows this fall to get him started and we had 3 calves  (the other cows in the group were already stuck ai) out of him and he showed to be a real cow changer on this limited number.  We will be using him very heavy this fall and are starting to ai cows back this next week and he will be used a lot.  He sired an American cross calf this fall that will be ultra good and should be one of the better Americans to sell this spring around the state.  Got a real nice Charolais cross calf out of him as well that is really powerful and good looking.

We have an excellent set of calves on the ground currently.  We have around 100 fall borns (most are AI calves and some out of our herd bulls) and they will be selling in the spring at our ranch outside of Waco.  We raised the Champion Simmental at Houston this year (2012) and have placed calves in the majors every year for a while. We have an outstanding bull battery and have routinely placed calves in the majors out of these cleanup bulls. We would be happy to show you our stock anytime if you want to look.

Point Taken is under used. He throws them extremely stout and hairy. big at birth. But stout and hairy. bad problem is, 80% of the people who do use him throw him on **** cows and nothing comes of it.
