dealt with both, troubador is by far better, i would breed a cow to my neighbors jersey before i bred her to yellow jacket (the calf would probably be deeper that way)

Both these bulls will work, LOOK AT THE OTHER POSTING on YELLOW JACKET  ,A VERY FINE looking bull prospect out of YJ ....uSE YOUR MIND AN YOUR semen
jug ,an when you get as old as me you will have seen how different combinations work ....The sire of YJ WAS A BUll that I could never really get to work ,but LIFELINE was working very well for some other people ....

I agree with freddy , i have used both bulls and will continue to do so . the calf to the left is a troubadour and the heifers below are yellow jackets , all ET calves .

Based on the size and shape of the Troubadours that I have had born I feel confident that he will work for me on these YJ females , may not for everyone though !

You might want t talk to Chambero he had some really good looking troubadirs this past winter/spring, I was planning on purchasing one until I read our county rules on females. No chi class and no market heifer class. Oh well I'm happy with my Maine from ZNT and maybe I can get a chi next year.
Sorry for my randomness.

Back to the question, just by looking at the 2 bulls I am a much bigger troubadour fan, and from the calves I have seen out of both i would use troubador. He throws some cool crossbred or clubbys (example one, Choppin Wood)

As much as i would like to say Troubadour is calving ease(on Hfrs) i can't, probably be better off with a easy calving angus or in our case corrientes.  We all work to hard and to long to get these hfrs to breeding age just to fowl them up, trying to get the next great one. I would rather have 1 dud and then 10 strait studs.  just food for thought. <cowboy>

All i can say is that I am in no way impressed with yellow jacket. You have to get really lucky to get a good one in my opinion. Also I have broke about 5 yellow jackets and they are little Karate Kids in the making.

Here's the deal on Yellowjacket as I see it based on my experience raising and showing them:

He is a darned good bull that throws pretty consistent, darned good calves.  But the steer calves will get bigger - not just frame but total mass - than what judges want today.  It's real hard to get them to finish under 1400 lbs.  However, I have only used him on cows that in hindsight are probably too big.

If he is going to work for steers, it would be on the Heatwave daughters or possibly even better, Monopoly daughters.  I think the Monopoly dams might give his steer calves a better chance to finish easier.

Only prospect steer show we've ever won in Texas was with a Yellowjacket.  That calf went to Houston weighing just shy of 1500 lbs and still wasn't quite fat enough.  However, he was the third calf pulled -  at the first glance the judge took at him - in the heavy Maines - ahead of what went on to be the Grand Champion Steer of the show.  Once the judge realized just how big he was, he kicked us completely out of the ring to the gate.  Not sure how to describe that result.

I've never had a Yellowjacket calf I didn't get sold for a show calf.  How many sires can anyone say that about?

There are more than a few people on this site that have placed Yellowjacket steers at majors.

Am I using him anymore?  No, but he is a long way from being a bad bull.

My advice:  if you are trying to raise show steers and are having no luck or terrible trouble with structure, etc - give him a try.
