    Fort worth steer show

I was there, albeit 30+ years ago I was on the Livestock Judging Team of a major university. I have also judged many (small) shows and have raised cattle all my life. To answer your question, they were really good for Herefords! Were they the best 2 steers in the show? That is at the very least...

how to become a cattle jock

My comment wasn't pointed in any specific direction but you all know what I am talking about. There are reputable people in this business (a few listed) that I do not place in the category of "cattle jock". They are business people and conduct themselves in that way. However, deception and...

how to become a cattle jock

I would agree with DLDs assessment but I would add one additional thing that was also touched on in a previous post. If you don't already, learn how to lie really well. ::) Although there are exceptions, unfortunately, dishonesty is very prevalent among "cattle jocks".

    1OAK Calves

I can't believe no one has Spring calves out of this bull. As stated, we have several coming and I am wondering mainly about birth weights.

    Cheap corn

I don't keep up with the corn market like a grain farmer but all I have been hearing about is the lack of corn acres in the Midwest due to last years floods and how corn is going to be high. I know it has affected the price of feed in our area (Southeast). Even commodity feeds have gone up and...

    1OAK Calves

We have several coming this Fall. Just wondering how the ones that were born this Spring were developing. The Bull took a striking photo that has been used in his promotion that primarily prompted us to use him. In addition he is a M2O son and I have always loved him. Just never able to...

    Winch for Spring o matic

I have a spring-o-matic table. I have thought about upgrading the winch to an electric ATV winch. They work off a 12 volt battery and most are about 2500 pound capacity. I haven't done it yet but don't see why It won't work. You can pick those things up at your local bargain tool store for...

    Fort Worth Steer Show

Certainly not challenging the 1600 number but my Son went out this year and he told me on Thursday there were over 2800 steers there? Bottom line there are a lot! He also said that there may be as many as 80 in a class, and when you came in one gate if you were not pulled by the time you reached...

NWSS Display Bull Reports and Thoughts

I was there and agree with most of the comments that have already been posted. The Duello bull that Lautner and Corky Wise bought was a very interesting animal. Impeccably sound with an outcross pedigree! Wynn in Doubt was a beast. May not work on all females but sure appears to be able to add...

    Bandwagon calves?

Here are a couple of Fall borns that we have in a phone bid off sale this weekend. They are both out of Hard Core x Meyer cows.

    Need help with newborn calf.

I think you are right. However, I'm not finding anything on newborns. The only other time I experienced this was about 8 years ago when my nephew had one with exactly the same characteristics. In all three cases the calves seemed to be this way from birth. I am 58 years old and have been around...

    Need help with newborn calf.

I was hoping for some information on this one. The calf is still alive and we are supplementing with a bottle. On Tuesday I also gave 3 mg Bo-Se and 1 mg Multimin. The only thing I can come up with is selenium deficiency and the symptoms don't exactly fit what I am reading about that. I will try...

    Need help with newborn calf.

Last year we had a calf born that at about a day old became very rigid especially on his rear legs. He lived about 3 months and continued to have stiff joints and very tight and rigid in his movement. I chalked it up to a genetic abnormality and sold the cow to eliminate the problem. This past...

Trying to register a 25% Simmental

Of the "Continental" registries the Simmental is the most restrictive in my experience. Also, in my experience you can do more with a registered cow/ heifer than you can with a registered bull. To my knowledge they don't have a category for commercial registrations. I have had heifers that I had...
