After talking to my vet, he is afraid to do too much because the cow is due to calf within the next month. He also believes that they most likely will come back. So, what do I do - calf her out and ship her when the calf is old enough to wean or spend some money and have him cut the corns out...

This is the foot of a 4 year old brahman cow that we have.  We noticed she was moving slower than normal and found this "thing" growing out of her foot. What is it and can it be fixed?

We have a pen with a creep feeder in it. Normally our calves start eating creep at about a month old. By the time they are ready to be weaned, they are eating really well and have started to fill out. I think it is easier on the calves too.

It could be joint ill or navel ill. Did you iodine the navel after the calf was born? Is the calf nursing? Is it running any fever? It might need to be treated with antibiotics. You might want to talk to your vet if you are worried about the calf.  Good luck!

Just a note to my above post. The cow I was talking about never did bag up or dialate.  We did keep her and she had a perfectly normal heifer calf the following year.

We had the exact same scenario with one of our cows. She was AI'd and preg checked bred. Never exposed to a bull. She went 14 days over her due date. At 10 days the vet palpated and could not even feel the calf it was so far up. Could not detect a heartbeat. All but told us the calf was dead. We...

I have probably bought over 50 calves from the sale barn, BUT I usually buy the ones that are brought in as cow/calf pairs and they are split up in the ring because the cow is either a cheater mouth or has a broken mouth and they can't sell them as a pair. Normally we give them Nursemate ASAP...

I saw an advertisement in the Texas Farm Bureau publication for Wrangler Bermudagrass. Has anyone had any experience with it? If so, how was it - good, bad or indifferent?
