Food for thought... or just one man's opinion.

I am sure that there are a few others, but here is one "curve bender" shorthorn that comes to mind.  We have used him in the past AI...heifers calve unassisted and they truly do have the performance. Ar Su Lu Osage 502 - *x4103548 BW: 0.1  (Top 15% in the Breed) YW: 45  (Top 2% in the Breed)

    Tyranny

I am not necessarily saying that Bundy's rights are being infringe upon or removed, but just want people to know that we live in a Representative Constitutional Republic NOT a Representative Democracy.  If we lived in a Representative Democracy...the majority could infringe upon or remove the...

    Tyranny

XBAR - you stated that "we live in a representative democracy.  Majority rules.  The minority interest has no choice." We live in a Representative Constitutional Republic.  There is a slight but very important distinction.  Majority rules.  However, the Majority can not infringe or remove the...

    ? for the Shorthorn Experts.

Nate - we only have five years of data - when we started finishing our cattle and selling them direct to packer. Our choice/prime average for that time period is 86%.  The 2012 data for primarily Step Ahead progeny was 91% - so a slight improvement but a smaller sample size.

    ? for the Shorthorn Experts.

Since 2009 we have marketed fat cattle directly on a grade-and-yield basis.  As a result, we have begun to generate some data that demonstrates the exceptional carcass traits of our cattle.  In that time, we have marketed a total of 123 head with 86% (106) of them grading choice or prime. In...

    Gene Banking

I am trying to locate info on Gene Banking.  I have only found one company thus far - Viagen (Trans Ova).  Are there other options as well?  Are other companies comparable in price?  Viagen's site shows $1600 plus $150 per year of storage.

Here are a couple Step Ahead daughters.  These are pics from the show ring, but his daughters have excelled in the pasture.  They are easy fleshing and have perfect udders.

    US Farm Bill

Hamburman - to be as brief as possible...it would make it much more difficult for the federal government to live beyond its means and make it more likely that they would only do what is Constitutionally permittable.  I don't pretend that it would solve our problems overnight...it wouldn't.  Not...

    US Farm Bill

Nate - if crop insurance was not subsidized its cost would obviously go up.  However, how many of the other input costs would go down as a result?  How much would the cost of cash rent or land go down if subsidies for crop insurance were removed?  If the "guarantee of profit" was...
