If you will go read "History of Shorthorn cattle" by James Sinclair, you will find that many of the original shorthorns that were registered in the herd book had black noses.  I don't know who created the myth that Shorthorns can't have a black nose.

Thought I would share a picture of a nice Thermal Energy son that I raised.  Reg. 4305903 I also have a pretty nice heifer.  Bred more cows to Thermal Energy this spring.  In my herd he is working best on moderate framed cows.

I have had calves from or seen cattle from the bulls you asked about.  I also saw 30B, 80C, 85C.  This my opinion: 30B - follows the frame size of the cow, good udders, not big birth weights but not a consistent heifer bull, adds length, good volume, good females 80C - calving easy, moderates...

EPDs are a tool.  If you see EPDs on animals from a breeder that you trust, they are good tools.  From a breeder you don't trust, they are definitely suspect.  But to say all EPDs are worthless is throwing the baby out with the bath water.  Two full sib brothers can sire very different...
