I wouldn't see why there wouldn't be a DNA test for Shorthorns if there are DNA tests for many multiple other breeds out there that produce both horned and polled cattle.
Haha! Well thanks! We are super excited about him. I just wish we had more Shorts to breed him to. (Growing pains) We have a couple heifer calves this year that are just looking on point so far. I'm really interested to see what they look like coming weaning time.
We haven't weighed him this year (I think he'd be too long for our scale) but if I were to guess, it wouldn't surprise me if he was in that 2500lb-2600lb range.
I'm just tooting my own horn here, but we are super excited with our Shorthorn herdsire. We purchased him as a calf off his dam in the fall of 2014. He's had exceptional calving ease paired with really exceptional growth. All his progeny have been extremely easy fleshing and an absolute pleasure...
We have found the same. I would say that cidrs do improve the rates, but we've had much better luck with a product called super sync. No cidrs involved at all. We do try to AI on natural heats as well, but we all work off the farm so we don't always catch them.
Hi everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone has milking females from Element? Just hoping to get opinions on udder structure, teat structure and milking production. Any pictures would be greatly appreciated. :)
