Hi to all, I am doing a bit of a poll here to see what size round bales people are using on their farm?
Please vote in this poll and share what size round bales you use on your farm.
Here in Saskatchewan and many parts of the great plains region we mostly use 5'x6' bales, that's what I make on...
What this breed, and what this business needs as a whole is more Cattlemen and fewer mathematicians, politicians and excuses.
I do believe in performance data collection and the formation of EPDs. I think they can be a valuable TOOL.
I also have little faith in many of the current numbers and...
Over the years I've seen numerous black nosed Shorthorns, some appendix cattle with Chi influence etc, Rodeo Drive decendants etc, some with full "Beef Shorthorn, Scotch pedigrees, some with full Irish pedigrees.
It definitely happens, it's a fairly common trait to find.
One black nosed sire...
Try putting a regular brass ring in her nose, like you would put in a mature bull.
That often works.
I've often seen people heat a fence staple and wrap it around the ring as well, or braze it on.

Great Ball!
Lot 15 is out of a first calf heifer that I raised, Shadybrook bought her from me in the Canadian Western Agribition Sale in 2010 as a heifer calf.
Her dam, Mistress 5X was one of my favorite heifers from the 2010 calf crop. She was an ET daughter of a donor of mine, MV Trump's Misty 0128...
I just returned from Omaha and had the Shadybrook Catalog in the mail waiting for me, looks Great!
Excellent set of cattle on offer and definitely worth the trip for the hospitality and scenery.
When I think of heaven to a Beef Cow, I think of Shadybrook.
Takes very little to cross the border with hay as far as paperwork goes. Lat year we sent 30,000+ bales out of my area to Texas, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma etc.
You may need overwidth permits because the bales would be roughly 5'x6'
Usually average around 1,400lbs/bale.
