what time will be the best time to sale calves

In my part of the world (Kansas) I think the best time to sell is when we get some rain.  I would background them as cheap as you can and see if this weather will turn around.  If we get some wheat pasture, the calf market will get better in a hurry!

    Eby ranch sale

If you go to www.angus.org then go to the API/Angus Journal link and look up sale reports the results of the Eby sale are on there as I looked at it yesterday

    Anyone ever graze soy beans?

I'd make sure you have the cattle full before turning them on and only leave them on for two or three hours for the first couple of times if that is possible.  Beans can cause them to bloat somewhat like grazing alfalfa.  If you could feed some bloat guard to them it would help

    Angus Junior Shows

Hanna you can't use paint on a calf anywhere at a Junior Angus show.  At junior nationals and other shows they white rag the cattle going into the make up area and dismiss anything that shows coloring.  You can however use adhesive and pink oil etc in aerosol cans but you can't use them in the...

    Silage Users

Well, I'll tell you my experience but since I am from Kansas and I see you are from Canada I think the weather conditions that effect silage will be drastically different.  It is possible to repack silage but I don't think it's possible to get it packed as good the second time for some reason. ...

    Angus sires -UPWARD-ABEERDEN-POTENTIAL -FINAL ANSWER

Upward was not producing last fall and his semen got up to $200 some places but then he started freezing again and he was back down to 40.  Final Answer is producing but at almost 12 he can't keep up with the demand.  His semen has gone up to 40 and there is a waiting list of orders for him if...

    Dirty calf need help

We have used mineral oil over the years with pretty good success.  I think the previous post about Crisco would be about the same deal.  If you can spray it on the night before you try to wash them it can really help!

    Angus show bulls

I would be careful what cows you breed BC Lookout to.  I have seen some really good calves out of him but I think you've got to breed him to really big cows to get heifers big enough to be competitive.  I love the calves out of him but most of the ones we have had just were undersized to show...

    Feeding baled cornstalks.

I would agree with the impossible to unroll statement.  We just bales some stalks and we had a bale that failed to tie string correctly so I took the bale truck down to unroll the bale and all I got was a little core on the rollers and a big pile of cornstalks I had to string out with a...

    Show steer weight

I think it depends on the judge but I think 1250 to 1350 ought to be good.  I like ours to weight about 1275.

    Dying heifers(color)

We put ours on with a blower fogger.  We mix it with Kleen Sheen.  Never had a problem with the fogger plugging up.  It can be a little messy!
