Anyone have Executive Order calves on the ground? I have seen one bull calf and (oh boy) are they good. I have one coming end of April out of a Uno Mas / Grandmaster cow.

help with SH bull choice (roan or white)

Justintime, Thank you very much for the info.  Both Touchdown and Free Spirit would fit the bill for sure.  I guess it's up to my kids now.  I appreciate the Shorthorn guys posting this info.

help with SH bull choice (roan or white)

So getting ready to make our annual semen order.  I always let the kids pick their bulls on their cows.  My boy has a mutt.  She is SH/Herf/angus cross.  My least favorite cow of my boy's, but he loves the heck out of her.  This will be her second calf.  She currently has a heifer calf out of a...

Clubby bulls on plain jane or even not so good cows.

Chap I think you are spot on.  I also like the embryo idea except we are probably 200+ miles from a technician or someone who can do it.  I guess we would have to explore costs. I have a good friend who has produced my neighboring county's 4-H and FFA champs the last several years in a row. ...

Clubby bulls on plain jane or even not so good cows.

Thanks for the comments.  I'm not worried about using a heifer safe bull.  Most of the cows are 5-10 years of age.  We understand the birthing issues with calving little "blocks". I was just hoping someone had more pics of the results they got and how the breeding made you say, "wow that calf...

Clubby bulls on plain jane or even not so good cows.

So my friend as a rancher has a lot of commercial, "range cows" that spend most of their life on grazing permits in the desert scrounging through this drought and then surviving tough high desert winters. They are "survivors" and not "show cows".  He just wants to get decent 4-H steers for his...

    Breaking in steer tips

Try keeping him tied, head kinda high and just mess with his feet over and over again.  Kinda like de-sensitizing a horse.  Also work on getting him to "walk" into the set if that makes sense so you dont have to do a ton of foot moving.

How to Put weight on a Green Steer

I think VC is giving great advice.  I know you will hear some people say that you will need to move to a finisher fairly quickly.  My advice, from experience is to use a yeast product.  It's a cheap investment and I feel it really helps.  We use Diamond V yeast.  I think it's like $30 a bag and...

    Calling all Simmental Folks

I need to get some pictures downloaded, but I vote Chopper.  He never really caught my eye much, but the calves he has been throwing for friends of mine keep impressing the heck out of me.  Very moderate, wide tops, huge butts, and pretty good guts.  Very gentle.
