    Shorthorn President a woman

Congrats to Nancy!  I’ve know. Her since she was a kid and her and her family have always been strong Shorthorn promoters and good cattle people who made a living with the their cattle.

    how do i twine legs?

Why would you want to twine?  There are several better products in aerosol cans to build legs with. I always thought twining looked fake and there probably aren’t one guy in 500. That can do it right so that it stays on the legs. They really don’t look that good with chunks of twine falling off...

What part of the country are you from?  There are some cattle out there that should fit what you are looking for.

Andis Pulse ZR 2 vs Andis Pulse ZR? please help me!

I would also recommend the Andis 2-speed clippers. I have 3 pairs and they are the most trouble free clippers I have owned. They are easy to maintain and economical to buy.

    OYE

The first time I showed at OKC was in 1976. I had a light heavyShorthorn steer that weighed 1000lbs. There were 4 classes and we were in class 3. I placed 5th. Back then sale order was after the steer show was over. Every class was lined up thru 5th place and lined up on the little arena in the...

    Winch for Spring o matic

I have replaced them with regular boat winch. Just make sure you get one rated for enough weight for the cattle you plan to put on it. If you are only going to do steer you should be able to get by with a 2000 lb. winch.  I use a table that our ag teacher put a battery operated athletic winch...

    Steer doesn’t like cottonseed hulls....

Tell your feedmill to run the mixer longer. Getting inconsistencies in a batch of feed is from not running mixer long enough for it to completely mix. I have had this problem before with small Co-op mills that change help frequently.

    Feed ration too dry?

It sounds like they need to run the mixer for a longer period of time if there is inconsistency in a batch of feed. I have had trouble at small mills With the same thing. Ask the hands running the mill to let it mix a little longer.

    Steer doesn’t like cottonseed hulls....

I would try mixing it good and adding some watered down molasses to make it more palatable. Dry hulls couldn’t be real appealing if they aren’t mixed in well.

    Looking for information

I actually have 2 of them. This one and another head a bought from a friend of mine about 15 years ago that had retired and was selling his equipment. The plug where you put the grease in the gears in the head is gone on it. The heads on the brownies uses 90W gear grease so the plug is...

    Looking for information

I have been looking for information on a brush I have that attaches to an old brown Sunbeam clipper motor. A neighbor gave it to me when I started showing in the mid-70’s. They had quit making the brown motors by then and the single speed motors were the black ones. Any of you old timers know...

Help with getting some weight on heifer

My experience with feeding little cattle is that the feed needs to be fairly nutrient dense.  Young calves lack the rumen capacity to handle large amounts of roughage and utilize it. I would probably drop the precon or at least decrease it.

It’s been brutal since last Thursday in that area. I am in the east end of the panhandle and we e had wind in the 40 mph range almost every day with humidity at around 5%. I taught at Vici for 9 years and have several good friends in Dewey county. At last report the fire had burned 265,000...

    Oklahoma wildfires

Not much information yet on losses. Latest reports from the Rhea fire in Dewey county was 240000 acres. Another fire in Woodward county was 115000 acres. Those fires are in adjoining counties in probably a 50 mile radius. I talked to a friend in Dewey county yesterday that said he had lost 5...

    Oklahoma wildfires

Please keep those in the wildfires in western Oklahoma in your thoughts and prayers. Fires for the last 2 days that are still burning and winds forcast at 40mph for today.  Cattlemen in these areas have lost cattle, hat, pasture, homes, and fences. With the wind and rugged terrain in these areas...

BEST DOB when looking for next oye bound steer project

We have show. Calves born from July to mid November in OKC. The older you can get them the stouter they will be.  Some of the steers winning are later spring or summer that have been held. You can make a young calf big enough but most of them aren’t stout enough to compete.

Help!!!! Newborn calf with white muscle disease!

In the feedlots we called them brainers because they would get down and thrash around on the ground. We would give them thiamine in the vein and in a few minutes they would get up and walk off.  You can use fortified b vitamins if it has thiamine in it. We also see it in goats Sometimes. I have...
