    premature calf

We had a preemie almost 5 years ago. 19 lbs, born in 105 degree heat and found the next day. Long story short, brought her home, used lamb feeder to get electrolytes in her for the first two feedings. Then used the feeder to give her canned goats mill, I think with a touch of karo and diluted...

    Bull Opinions?

I was looking over ultrasound results from Denver and will add those here. I think his numbers are adequate anyway. US Was done 1/17/16 DOB 3/10/15. BW 75 Weight 757# REA.  12.35 REA/ CWT.  1.63 AVG IMF.    3.18 AVG Fat thickness.  .07 He was weaned Oct 1 (no creep) and started on feed...

    Bull Opinions?

Thank you Mark T, for taking the time to give a look and an opinion. i should look and see if I got (hubby actually) any photos of Calamity Jane C4, the heifer beside the bull. She's a beautifully ribbed heifer.

    Bull Opinions?

Hey Stumpy, not sure what you mean. Unless you are seeing one of the heifers laying down behind him?

    Bull Opinions?

Gee, thank you KAXX. He's out of a cow we raised, RFLTD Xanadu and a purchased bull,  Brass Ring Apostle. So purebred Galloway...and thus no names you are familiar with  ;) I do like him a lot.

Thank you for taking the time to reply Duncraggen. Much appreciated.

    Bull Opinions?

These aren't the best photos I guess, but all I have I think. This is the 10 month old Galloway bull,  "Cochise", that we took to Denver. Any opinions or observations? Thank you. *Updated. I found another photo. He's standing kind of silly, but hopefully not too distracting?

    Pretty Girl

One of our Denver heifers struck such a nice pose the afternoon before the show, I just had to share.

    RFLTD Xenon

You are correct Librarian....Xenon is all about 'the beef'.  I believe that Xenon son you posted from Brass Ring is also coming to Denver. Come join us!  I think Galloway breeders have more fun in the Yards than any other breed there. They are such a congenial, helpful bunch.

    RFLTD Xenon

Librarian, He is homo black, and tested pha and th free. He can sure do nice things to a calf crop. And, 'if you like your frame size you can keep your frame size', because he appears to have no effect on the frame size. He will add correctness and a whole lot of smoothness. I am attaching a...

    Beet pulp or cottonseed hulls

Thanks for the input everyone. We are in the Yards, try to bring all our own prairie hay needs. From what I read in the archives, all these products like full tank and winning fill (both were recommended by the fitter....or I wouldn't have known they existed) are frequently used as a pre-show...

    Beet pulp or cottonseed hulls

Thanks for the reply HF Chars. Yeah...I agree with that. Was hoping to start introducing a little now. I think I'm just going to give some added CSH each feeding and that should hopefully keep manure firmed up. Not sure if they will affect fill.

    Beet pulp or cottonseed hulls

Full Tank isn't available around here it seems, not in a timely manner anyway. Looking for filler for use with 2 heifers and a bull calf while they are at NWSS. My objective is keep manure firm, keep feed intake good, keep them full and with a happy rumen without having to haul a bunch of hay...

    Full tank and winning fill

Full tank and winning fill were suggested to me recently. I have read through SP archives, but my question is, when feeding it, is it in addition to their ration, or is ration reduced and replaced by one of these products? Thank you.

    Fitter in Eastern MT

To clarify, even someone in Western ND, or some experienced 4H showmen with facilities for cold weather would be great.  :)

    Fitter in Eastern MT

Hi. A breeder in Eastern MT is looking for a fitter to prep her cattle before Denver. This will need to be a professional, with an indoor wash facility. Their climate is to unforgiving in December and January to be able to count on doing it themselves, though in years past they have had brief...

    Galloway Bull Calf

I'm back. I ran this bull calf, "Cochise C2" through his first wash and clip cycle today. He was weaned October 1. I'm not a great fitter, but clip job aside, what opinions can you share?

    Current Frame Size Trends

Librarian I think we view extensive cattle production through a similar lens.  Interestingly enough, the soils under our pastures are poor, too much clay making them easily droughty, as well as highly eroded (had the life farmed out of them way back in the mid 1900's) and thus mined out of a lot...

    Galloway semen.

RFLTD XENON, Fullblood Galloway bull. As deep bodied as they come. He will add muscling and smoothness. Very correct bull, nice hair. Imparts excellent disposition, docility to his offspring. $30/straw. 620-343-6757.  www.renfarms.com breedingstock page.  Phone, PM or email [email protected]...

    Current Frame Size Trends

So being a bit of a data person... Is there a frame score number that's considered "center of the bubble" ?  Example, is it a frame 5 that's the target these days, with a half score either side? Just trying to get some direction here.
