    First Time to Denver

I second Famous Dave's! Never been to Denver (on my bucket list), but we stayed in Sandusky for a week over the summer and ate at their Famous Dave's 4 nights in a row, it's that good!

What to use on simmi/angus cows

Thats a sweet looking little calf PTR, makes me want to look into using Yellow Repo on our herd as we have some SimAngs.

    Very Frustrated

I think you're able to pay it online with a credit card (don't ask me how bc I did it once and couldn't remember how to navigate that website if my life depended on it).  Also I know some services are off-limits if there is an outstanding balance, such as viewing/printing pedigrees. This was my...

    Fall pictures

Awesome pics!  I'm glad you posted an update on the Optimizer heifer calf.  We have a %Sim heifer we are looking to breed back to either him or Uno Mas this spring.  Good luck this year!

    Certain Breeds for Showing?

I've actually noticed a lot more Herefords in the show circuits; whether PB, or often out of a commercial Hereford and a clubby bull.

    Shorthorn on line registry system

I think the concept is there, but it could be more user friendly. We have a herd of about 15 we have registered, and entering births, weans and registering our heifers we are keeping back was an all day task.

Believe In Me, Hired Man, Hard Whiskey, I80, unstoppable

I was misinformed in my information, I apologize.  I have removed that portion of my comment to prevent further "misleading".

Believe In Me, Hired Man, Hard Whiskey, I80, unstoppable

We're breeding our boss's small herd of horns half to I-80 and half to Select Sire's Capiche. They will be on their second calves this time which is why we chose I-80, for the low birth weights. Hoping to get some flashy ones come spring! I'm not saying don't breed with the other sires, this...

    Dying vs. Dyeing

I KNEW IT DIDN'T LOOK RIGHT.  You know how you type/write something and you just sit back and look at it for a minute because you know it doesn't look right? That was me with one of those posts. Brain fart I guess.

    Dying My Steer

Just curious as to why you are dyeing his spots? Dyeing is generally used for faded spots (from urine, sun fading etc.) to get a true jet black. I've never heard of someone dying white spots!  Some people would actually consider his spots to make him "flashier" in the ring.

    HPF Optimizer

Nice calf, and cow too!  Optimizer is one we've been looking at, nice to see he's done well for you!

    Tail Problem

That's pretty interesting cowboy_nyk, I've never heard of that method.  We usually just use the showstick and kind of pull the tail back in place when in the ring, though it can be a bit irritating when the calf immediately lifts it back up!

    Sales in Zanesville Ohio

If you're in the market for females, there are a few excellent sales coming up in SE Ohio (Zanesville). Both sales will be at Muskingum Livestock in Zanesville Ohio. -Nov 27 is the Back to the Farm female replacement sale hosted by the Ohio Cattlemens Association.   Cosigners' female have...

    Training Hair in the Winter

I would focus on show practices: tying, leading, sticking etc. You can brush/comb while tied to get the calf better used to you and calm it down more, but if you don't have a blower I would not worry about it.

    Whitening Shampoo That Really Works?

I'll have to try that! Where would I purchase it?

    Whitening Shampoo That Really Works?

Anyone know of a good whitening/stain removing shampoo that works? Or am I looking for unicorns here?  For a smoke heifer that has some bad stains on her knees and flank.  We've used Sullivan's Bright Lights and are currently using Vetrolin White n Bright. I prefer the Vetrolin to the Sullivan's...

    Mab dead

Karol, I don't think anyone was disrespecting MAB, just creating conversation. The price of the semen was high, in comparison to other bulls, because it was a better product in the eyes of the sellers and purchasers. And it will continue to rise because the supply is now limited. Simple supply...

    bloat and rumensin crc bolus

I agree with obie105, the vitaferm products have worked for us.  Our fair steer has bloated up bad 2-3 times this year.  We first tried holding back feed etc, but it didn't help much.  Tried the VitaFerm VitaCharge bolus on a friend's recommendation and it worked like a charm. He was back to...

To trim or not to trim...hooves

I'd say trim, and talk with your hoof trimmer and express your concerns. He/She is the expert and will give you their professional opinion. Our guy is awesome. He asks when your next show is, any concerns you're having and has you walk the calf around a bit so he can see any issues in person...
