    Proposed Colorado livestock legislation

I live here in this rapidly trending anti-ag state. It breaks my heart what they are doing to us here. I don’t understand why Cattleman’s had to overlap the NWSS dates. I’m all for an all cattle major just do it at another time.     My plea to all of you is to jump aboard on our fight to...

    NGNG

Here’s one we sold last fall. Been a 2nd at a couple shows. We had no trouble calling them and they were easy to sell. I think you need to keep an eye on them as they can be a bit hard feeding.

    Looking for advice/tips....

We started using the Cable halters. I think Sully’s is called Cruise Control.  They work well and have broke some rank steers with them. I was very skeptical of it at first but they don’t pull away with them on. Even really broke cattle that tend to throw their heads with younger kids they work...

    Fort worth steer show

I'd like to give a huge shout out to GKB cattle for their purchase of the champion steer. Great people who stepped up to support this young man. The other thing that I truly loved was his old school show stick. That's class to see a young man useing a wood stick.

    MSM withdrawal??

Maybe I'm way out there but I think popping them pasterns is more of a grow and nervous problem. When I get calves that hit their growth spirt they tend to pop and when we go to them first shows they will do it to. I honestly believe good foot care and time get them over it. I will say we use...

    Fu Manchu and brisket disease

It's a tough thing we have to deal with up here in the high country. We lose them as babies usually if they have some sort of illness at a young age. Showstopper, no need to worry about Fu at low elevations. Only thing I'd add to the CSU article is the higher the animal is PAP tested the more...

    Fu Manchu and brisket disease

Yes. We had to stop useing him right away. They all PAP high and we lost a couple of calves. Our high seller last year was a Fu and we lucked out. He ended up winning a competitive county fair in CO but I won't use the bull again. To bad cause he worked well for us. By the way I do have a few...

    Breeding issues.....

Sounds like you have an issue that a good vet needs to look at. As far as watching a bull breed cows, In all the years of doing this it's almost hopeless. I had a fall bull (18 months old) that I put with 28 head one spring. Watched him like a hawk never once did I see that bull breed a cow. The...

why do people take the plastic clipper guard off below the blade?

That is a part of the body of the clipper. Like I said they tend to just fall off. It really doesn't seem to effect the life of the clippers but like all of my equipment I try to put them away clean. I usually just blow them off real good and oil them up.

why do people take the plastic clipper guard off below the blade?

Most people say that they can see the blade and hair better. As for me they seem to just fall off and I can never find them.

    In God We Trust females

I kept 5 calves in the fall of '17. But I had a wreck getting them breed. Had 3 open and I have no reason why. Of the 2 IGWT that calved this spring, 1 is a good big bagged nice cow. Other one is thin and doesn't have much of a bag. That being said both calves have grown well and seem to be ok...

I went back 45 minutes after I saw her lay down and start pushing. Calf was up and trying to nurse when I got back. Lots of vigor and made right, 74 lbs BW.  Really pleased with our 1st Burrell Heifer calf. I'll get a pic in a day or two. blaze faced calf out of a Momentum/Angus 4 yr old.

*New* Burwell sire working on all breeds

I will know within the hour how the first one is. Have one on the way as I write this. I've honestly never been as excited to see a set in a long while. I studied that bull hard in Denver. He's my kind. I also hold Grant in the highest regards as a great cattle breeder. Can't wait. P.S. I had...

    Pelton wide load-Red Angus bull

AJ we used the Detour bull here and just loved the cattle. Those heifers are going to calve this week and I'm really impressed with their udders as for now. They are on the smaller end of of our breeds but are built so good that I'm really excited to see what they have. Reds don't typically live...

    Jackpot shows

Only other thing I would add is, walk around and study things others do. Ask questions if you can and make sure you know when your class is and when check in is. CW is right have fun and learn.
