    sexed semen

I've been told the 3ml and 5ml do not refer to volume.  It's the number of wigglers in each straw.  3 million and 5 milllion

Anyone with experience using sexed semen?

XBAR  $25-$50 does not determine what I do.  I stated in my post it was more important to get the heifer bred than the cost of an additional unit of sexed semen.  As usual, you add nothing to the conversation.

Anyone with experience using sexed semen?

I used one unit of conventional semen.  I was fine with the usual risk on conventional, just wasn't comfortable with sexed if the conception rate is  lower.  I didn't feel two units conventional were necessary since I knew when she came in heat and when she went out.  I am kind of particular on...

Anyone with experience using sexed semen?

I have a heifer that I want to breed using sexed semen.  I'm told sexed semen will have a little lower conception rate than conventional.  She was cycling regularly, until I was ready to breed her about 45 days ago.  Now she's standing.  I hate to used sexed and lessen my chances of sticking...

Did I screw up a breeding?

If I remember the literature correctly, lutalyse works in the day 5 to day 13 window of a 21 day cycle.  It appears the cow is in day 3 or day 4.  I can't give you odds, but I know that trying to bring cows in heat outside that window probably doesn't work.  However, Murphy's Law may apply -...

Need some advice regrding heifer sexed semen for a maine anjou .. needs to be pu

Don't know who's doing your invitro work, but the one I am familiar with, prefers thawing conventional semen and then sorting (sexing) it.  They have a better success rate than using frozen sexed semen for fertilization.  I didn't ask, but I assume there is less total stress on the wigglers...

    Liquid Nitrogen Tank Questions

If there was liquid in it, it should be fine.  Semen doesn't have to covered with LN.  You're right your lack of vapor when you opened it is due to your low air temp.

    County Show = Popularity Contest

It would appear that the only opinions that interest you are those that match yours.  Those that don't are "snide".  You have been offered good, sound advice and it seems you have no interest in learning because you already know how it all works.  You have not been beaten up on this site.  The...

    What to do?

I understand your concern.  My cows almost always calve between 280 and 285 days.  This year for some reason they are going long - from 290 to as long as 297 days.  The good news is the calves don't seem to be larger than normal.  If it's a cow, I'd let things progress naturally.

    Cowboy

If I had a cow I thought was worthy of the time and expense to flush, I would take her to Cowboy.  I've followed what he's had to say for years on here and another board.  What caught my eye and my interest was his common-sense approach to a complex subject - cattle reproduction.  IMO ET work is...
