    Ethics

It's really not the American way to teach kids that it's not fair for someone to have a more expensive car than them or live in a bigger house than them. That's where we are with Obama now. Yes when my kids were showing they would have liked to buy some of the high selling steers but they...

What do you think of Fort Worth Steer Show?

I don't suppose there is an email address for Mr. Marchman so that  parents and concerned individuals could send their thoughts and opinions about not having Mr. Johnson back next year. If  there is such everybody needs to flood them with their requests but be careful to not be unprofessional in...

    Paul Harvey...God Made a Farmer...Super Bowl Ad

Freddy I was there at Vic's field day also. Wasn't for sure about that plane getting landed. I remember the list of requirements he had like a place to take a nap before he spoke don't remember all the others but that figured into why he  was flown in. But did enjoy his speech and am very proud...

35 days to show and Limousin steer refuses to eat

Sounds like classic acidosis. A trip to your vet he can check and tell you for sure.

Who impacted you as a clipper/fitter?

Lyle Miller no doubt. One of the first to comb and blow hair forward and smooth also one of the first to clip with smaller clippers.

    Best County Fairs

Montgomery County in Conroe Texas always has good cattle but on top of that the Grand Steer brought $65,000 this year. That was a record but in the past they have brought $50,000  and $36,000. Not bad for a county.

Rank the toughest majors and state fairs

The heifers at Louisville maybe as tough as any but ft worth steer show is the toughest.  There are 12classes of 70 to 80 head in the cross reds. The barred shows on Thurs. are u believe able also. To get pulled to the middle in ft. Worth is a big honor. Of course getting classified maybe...

Rank the toughest majors and state fairs

I would say jr. Heifers might be tougher at the naile but steers nothing compares to ft worth. The crossbreed classes have 70 to 80 head per class and the breeds on thurs are unbelievable. It is a very big honor to get pulled to the middle in ft worth. And there are 12classes of crosses. Of...

    Texas Twister

The yellow Charolais was the high selling one at kris's sale.  I believe he was bought by Bezners.

    2013 Texas Major Steer Judges

Mark Hoge does judge alot of hog shows also, and I believe Scott Greiner also judges lamb shows but there sure isnt anything wrong with judges being able to judge more than one species on a natioanl level. The list of competent, honest steer judges is a very short one as it is. Greiner has...

    2013 Texas Major Steer Judges

Have actually shown under all three. Greiner and Mark Hoge both do a real good job. Probably like simular kinds of steers. Don't really think Greiner judges anthing like Scott S. Mark Johnson  is more a a big question mark.did not care for the cattle he used but that was several years ago.

    Ft Worth.

Just thought of this I bet you guys did not know it but the purchaser of the Grand steer at Ft.Worth had a grandson who showed steers. In fact he had the Champion Gert steer at Houston a few years ago. And yes he probably understands more of the whole picture than you would think but he choses...

    Ft Worth.

Understand where you are coming from, but papers and tattoos used to be used in some breeds 15 to 20 years ago but because of numerous problems with proof and finding out after the fact that papers did not match DNA Texas decided to do it how they do now. All this has pretty much been talked...

    Ft Worth.

They average 75 to 80 per head in the 12 exotic classes. Watched all the exotic and most of the day on thursday. Just like last year I thought Kevin did a real nice job. No one agrees 100%, but we were not down on the floor either. I just appreciate him for doing an honest, very competant  job...

    Denver Steer Show

Was there and watched entire show it was real good set of steers, the two steers that won definitely deserved to be there. The three judge system worked because basically they did not have many of the placings very fair apart. But saying that it was slow and boring and very unexciting. They did...

Problem with Club Calf Industry...thoughts please

I agree with Chambero as to the many, many benefits of young people being involved in a livestock program. There are some real problems that all of us should realize can't be changed much so those of us that love the business and realize how many kids have benefited from the program just keep...

    Superman and Landslide

If the superman bull is the old bull by that name, I would not consider him. Nothing about him says get charolais cross females that you would want to keep.

Problem with Club Calf Industry...thoughts please

Have enjoyed reading all you guys opinions. If you think about this thread of course there really isn't a right or wrong. But I will say we raise club calves, have had very successful career with our child, and i grew up in the commercial industry. Every one is right about soundness. We do need...

    belt buckle

A question to Texas exhibitors, if there were other prospect shows put on (not TCCA sanctioned) that paid out real good money, do you guys think this would work. Not another assn just a set of shows. I know this has been discussed alot but so far no one ever tries this. Not saying good or bad...
