    What would you do?....

We took this guy to the vet, had a repro specialist look at it, a surgeon and a general vet. Three similar answers... they said that the way this testicle came out and is laying that he will likely herniate beyond repair. The only difference in there opinions was the amount of increase chance of...

    What would you do?....

Had one of boys steers drop a nut recently. It was one we purchased as a steer out of a sale. He was never the most feminine thing, so him have a more cresty neck didn't concern me. I have not had a vet verify it, but if felt his sack and it's there.  My question is... how should I approach this...

    Sheep Question

So..... my wife has talked me into getting a few ewe's to breed. We've shown club lambs the last couple years, but I've never had any breeding sheep.  Does anyone know of any good books or on-line resources that talk about general husbandry, shot regimens, etc.?  Could I get a few and lamb them...

    Trouble with steer wart vaccine

We had similar issues w/wart vaccine last year.  We tried everything under the sun to try and get rid of his warts and used the vaccine as a last resort.  Well.... the steer went off feed for about 3 weeks and shucked his hair.  We were lucky that it was fairly early so we were able to get some...

any mojo calves? average birth weight?

As far as calving ease.... we calved a few heifers to him with no problems.  One was a little big for a heifer, but not over 90lbs.

any mojo calves? average birth weight?

I've included pics of our herd bull Moby, he was a Mojo X Impulse.  Couldn't find any pics of our direct Mojo calves, but here are a few out of Moby.  One is out of a common herf sale barn cow, the other was out of a monster Purebred Limi cow.

any mojo calves? average birth weight?

I've had a few and had a Mojo son as a herd sire.  Ours were all super hairy, fancy and had plenty of bone.  Maybe not as easy doing as Monop/MAB/HW, but not hard feeders by any means.  I personally loved the bull and would probably use him still if I had more cows.

    Show calf

IMO I would limit his hay to around a flake/day and make sure he is on a good finishing feed.  A couple weeks out from a show maybe start adding some depth charge or cotton seed hulls to his diet so he gets use to being full.  Once you get back from the show take him off the depth charge/hulls. ...

    EXAR DENVER

I don't have any of his calves.  I flipped through the EXR bull catalog and honor roll sale book, they look pretty good.

Our latest calf (pic heavy )

Good looking calf! I think she'll make a nice jr. project and more importantly a pretty good cow.

    MAB club calf sire?

We've had several MAB's now.  My experience is that if they are sound as calves then they will be sound as fat's.  They are pretty easy feeders.  Like I said that's our experience w/MAB's. The one that we had that was never completly sound probably would have benefited from Lubrisyn or something...

How to save money when building a barn

We just built a 55 x 80 and went through Diamond L Pole Barns in OK (918) 797-0040.  They beat the amish by a good amount of money and had it up in three days.  I would highly suggest them.  I agree w/the heavier siding.  I would also suggest having them use hurricane clips.  About doors... I...

    Fitter 35

I've not presonally used Fitter 35.  I've used winning fill to hold calves before and it does pretty well.  Of course hulls are always a good filler.  What age is she? I know folks who just kick older heifers that are border line getting stale out on a round bale and a stress tub and bring...

    When is it considered overkill?

Our county rule is pretty vague... "Each exhibit shall be owned and under the care of the exhibitor and shall represent work accomplished with the 4-H or FFA project during the current year" I agree, once a week is not caring for the animal.  The situation we (our county) has is that the kids...
