Thanks, ya'll.  We'll just keep working at it then and hope for the best.  We are learning to LOVE shorthorns, but know so little about them.  Definitely do not want our ignorance to have a negative impact on them ~

1st year showing shorthorns...Do you brush/train their hair differently than you do for other breeds?  If so, any tips for breaking it?  Seems tougher than with our others.  Any clipping tips for shorthorns?

That should say they don't "fight" the halter.

They're broke to the halter quite well.  Don't fit it at all.  They're tied up 2+ hours each day above head level.  They just will not lead for longer distances. 

Got 3 shorthorn heifers.  All very gentle and halter broken.  They lead fairly well for short distances - from the pen to the wash area and chute.  None lead well for greater distance - laps.  One is especially difficult, pulling back often and jumping forward when she finally does go.  Any...

Any suggestions for shows open to Alabama youth?  Have cattle - will travel.
