    Bull Calf

A frame 6.5 for a Charolais calf in Canada??? He must be a midget. Looks ok in the picture  but thats not big enough for me. We need Charolais to be growthy and pack on pounds not be glorified angus.

    bloating steer

No withdrawal time on Rumensin - feed it right up to slaughter. Thats not an issue. It is pretty common for show cattle up here to get a bolus and be safe. You dont want to lose that prize show heifer/bull/steer because one day she ate a little more then she should have.

    bloating steer

Go to the vet and ask for a Rumensin CRC bolus. It slow releases monensin into the rumen and lasts for 80 days. It is a big capsule with wings so it has a special gun to adminster as well. Once you have the gun though you dont need to buy it again as it will last forever. Works great - the calf...

    show heifer?

If its really distracting try putting a rubber band tight around the tail at the top before she goes into the ring. It will stop her from flicking it in the ring. Son had a steer that loved the show stick so much he would flick his tail whenever he was set up and scratched. A purebred breeder...

    Question......

I was being serious with what I said. I did say though if you had a banner in a picture you could have a smile - you won its ok to be happy. Usually there are quite a few in the picture so a few smiles are ok. The showman though should never look at the camera i believe - call it a pet peeve...

    Question......

The picture should showcase the animal not the person. When I look at the picture I should notice the animal first and foremost. Just like in the showring - when the kids are in the 4-H ring showing their calves the judge shoudl notice the calf first not the kid showing it. I hate those dam kids...

    Corrupt system

Chambero: If you for one second think the US economy is in good shape I have got some "Ocean Front Property for you in Arizona". Your debt is raising astronomically every day, you are fighting wars with never any hope of winning them, your unemployment numbers are extrememly high (and...

    Charolais bulls

Dont know for sure, but the bull I think HF is talking about is on the Charolais Banner website. He was a Sanchez son. I was at the sale he sold at - solid calf. Could have been a frame score taller for my liking but wide, flat topped, good footed, lots of nuts. He sold for $30,000 or something...

    Purebred Charolais Fakeford

I saw it online last night Mark. At first i thought it was the incorrect picture but it doesnt look like it. Those farmers dont have another breed or anything. The breeder should have nutted that bull at birth. Consistent color is very important to the Charolais breed - that is ridiculous...

What is the Value of a herd sire.

Commercial cattleman myself and I dont scrimp on herdsires. Dont pay $100,000 either but I dont mind spending $5000. The most I have ever spend was $7500 and I dont regret it either. There have been a few $5000 ones too that i wished i had passed on. In my opinion if a purebred breeder cannot...

    F1 Simmi X Angus bulls

I thought i woudl take some heat for my comments - nice to see there are some true cattlemen and cattlewomen on the site. I dont know how the big operations sell these F1 bulls each year but you are right - they command big dollars. I got caught up in it as well - once. I will not make that...

    F1 Simmi X Angus bulls

Tried some F1 bulls once - never try them again. If you are looking for consistency in your calf crop you need to use a purebred. Sure the bulls look great but what kind of calves are you going to get? Ill tell you what i got - 1/4 look like Angus, 1/4 look like Simmental, and 1/2 somewhere and...

    Ft. Worth FINAL DRIVE Video.

I think the right steers won - those smokey steers were to hard to deny. If that is a straight Hereford steer - it was the dumbest decision in history to nut him. That calf as a bull would do a hell of a job for the breed in general. Not many herefords are that thick topped and that square...

NEED HELP GETTING RID OF RINGWORM!

Daughters 4-H Steer had ringworm a few years back. Tried everything - couldnt get it controlled. One old timer in town told us to take a sponge and soak it in Coca Cola. Not Pepsi - Coke. Dam ringworm was killed off and started healing up almost immediately.

    Would it be worth it?

My cows paid for my University bills - tuition, books, room and board. Its an investment and if you have someone to look after them for you - go for it. The industry looks positive, for the first time in awhile. I say go for it. Good luck

    Photography - "Fixing pictures"

Bawndoh . Thanks for that - I appreciate what you did. Too me you just cleaned up the photo and made it more appealing to me to look at. I guess as long as the bull is not "altered" then I can see how it is a benefical tool. By looking at the photos, I woudl be more inclined to take a look at...

Fair enough. I like the looks of my Blugrass son and hope he has better calves on my heifers then you describe.

    LT Bluegrass

I also was at Agribition, yet have a hard time remembering very many Kaboom calves there. I think there might have been a  heifer calf that won something - thats about it. I dont think there were any Bluegrass cattle there at all. Please explain why you think they were so much better. Do you own...
