    Heifer didn't stick?

We had a heifer (not a show heifer) cycle back at about 80 days last year.  She had been with a bull at the time she should have cycled back at 21 days and basically up until the point she came up open.  I would get her checked and just know it happens.

    Bad Udders

I wish we would have been more savvy about bad udders and paying attention to that trait when we got started into this business years ago.  We started with two pairs and that is how we have built our herd.  Well the one cow from the one pair that made it around here has a bad udder and she has...

Steer doesnt like head being touched

It sounds like he is just being a turd and wanting that halter off NOW! Like the others have said make him wait until he can stand nice.  He will catch on soon enough.

    Air movement in cooler

We live in CO so we have little humidity to deal with, so we use a swamp cooler (it is cheap and easy to run) and a large fan blowing on the calves.  We also make sure the room is dark.  I am sure it could be better, but it is pretty cool in that room and we always seem to have a decent amount...

    Tiger woods bull

We had a Tiger Woods steer last year.  He was a good calf.  He never made it to his final show date as he wasn't sound at all.  We have never had a calf out of this cow that wasn't sound until him.  He is however the yummiest piece of beef I have ever eaten.

    Any Rumor mill calves?

Telos, it is kinda a funny story now, but it wasn't at the time....a little accidental mating.  She is a Meyer Meyer calf.  She isn't my favorite calf in the pasture, but she will darn sure work.

    Any Rumor mill calves?

Just thought I would update on our flush mate to Rumor Mill.  She is still looking amazing and since calving has adopted a set of orphan twins we wound up with.  We didn't encourage her to do this they were just out on pasture with the cows and we were feeding them twice a day and supplementing...

    Injured Calf Question

Muddy Creek, is it a calf that is still on the cow or an older calf?  If it's a calf that is still on the cow it seems like whenever we have a calf that gets stepped on it is always a hind foot/leg.  That may be something to think of as well.  We had one last year that got stepped on and she was...

    Cost/Head/Day to run cows

We are running a few cows for some folks and was wondering what cost/head/day people usually charge for both feeding hay, and running on pasture.  Some are pairs and some are heifers so.......  and just an FYI we are in the great state of CO.

    Injection Site Swelling

LA200 and some injectable wormers are the worst.  Give it time and it will go away.

    Got to share

I think that livestock judging and horse judging are two of the best things a youngster can do.  It teaches them so many important skills.  Congrats to her!

    Spring in Northeast Oklahoma

Like we say here in CO "If you don't like the weather wait five minutes".  Hope everyone made it through okay.

    Any Rumor mill calves?

Mark, it is something we are considering.  We were waiting to see what kind of cow she was going to make.  Could definitely be in her future.

    Any Rumor mill calves?

I apologize in advance to everyone involved for the horrible picture.  Here is ours.  This is 40 days post calving.  She has been in a dry pasture/dry lot since and eating grass hay and a lick tub we provide pre/post calving.  She is filthy and absolutely a cow and gets zero special treatment...

    Any Rumor mill calves?

We have a cow that we purchased from Blind Badger as a heifer and she has now had her second calf.  She is a full sister to Rumor Mill and we absolutely love that cow.  She is deep bodied, easy keeping, stout, sound, has a perfect udder and is a wonderful mother.  I don't know how much that...

    Yardley Bull

I haven't seen that one in person.  However, if you call Mr. Yardley (Gib) he would probably tell you everything you needed to know and more.  Super nice guy.

    Help with a crazy steer

Larissa, I was going to suggest the same thing.  Use a calming agent on a daily basis and see if he makes progress.  I have heard however that Ace can have on opposite effect on some cattle, so I may steer clear of that.  Good luck.  Another product that has worked well for us in the past is...
