    Swollen hocks on show steer

Draining the fluid is considered unethical fitting.  That is why in the previous posts they were saying it is illegal to do it.

How do you build your bedding at livestock shows? Up for trying something new.

About 4-5 inches. I just don't want them standing with their rear end higher than their front end and forcing their head into the head tie. Doesn't sound like much but it makes a difference in the way they stand for you.

How do you build your bedding at livestock shows? Up for trying something new.

Shavings first and wet them down and pack them in good.  Then put pellets on top and wet them and pack them in good. Don't be afraid of the water.  Put plenty of water on them.  I try to get at least 12 inches of bedding with a slope from front to back.  I then place perforated rubber mates at...

    building new barn

Its like others have said, its about your location.  I am located in Central Texas and I feel a cool room is a must to be competitive with hair calves.  I have used Porta Cools and fans in the past, but the cool room gave us a step up.

    Left over fat steers

I have a steer that is out of Lamborghini Bull with a Chi/Maine Dam.  She is a Friction/Habanero.  He weights 1265 and is hairy and unclipped.  To many on feed this year and no place for him to go.  Do not have a current picture.  This one is several months old.

san antonio screwed up worse than before?

I was there for the steer show.  I thought the barn had some improvements from the previous barn.  There are some things that no thought was put into.  The wash racks were just a total bust.  The men's and women's bathrooms were bigger than the inside wash rack. The inside wash rack had rails...
