Its time to start thinking about Bull Bracket II. I’m bumping this thread up to refresh everyone on how last years went. I’m kicking around some ideas on doing the brackets different this year but I will put it up for debate before any final plans are made. I’m thinking about doing the brackets according to breeds so it would look something like this:

Bracket A
8- Angus Bulls
8- Simmental Bulls

Bracket B
8- ShortHorn Bulls
8- A.O.B Bulls

Bracket C
8-Clean Maines “TH & PHA Free”
8- Dirty Maines “carriers”

Bracket D
8- Clubbies
8- Old School Bulls

Other Bull categories I have thought about
Chianina
Clones
Charolais
Herefords

Or we could do it like last year and just throw ‘em  all in together and see how it shakes out.

Nasc!

What about a bracket per breed, then do divisions (American, British, Continental), then a supreme?  Might take forever though.

Add to that:
09 Bulls of Denver
Bulls of the Heatseaker blood line

I'm also kicking around the idea of giving last years champ a free ride in this years tourney  and have Meyer 734 face the winner of this years brackets for supreme champion honors.

I'm relatively new to this board, but this tournament deal is cool.  I like the idea of splitting brackets by breeds, and then have a "championship drive" in the end.  That way a more common bull can't knock a PB breed legend out of the picture early in the rounds....It will also give a truer read of how people feel about different types of bulls in each breed.  My humble opinion.

The champion from last year....734....anyone know or care to share his history????  When did he first sell, how much did he sell for, etc?  I've heard stories through the years that are amazing, but I'm not confident enough that they are 100% true to repeat them to anyone.  If anyone knows his history, I'm interested.  Should just cut to the chase and ask Mr. Meyer sometime, I guess.  Gary Meyer is a great old cowboy who's raised some good ones....however, I bet that he never would've guessed that 734 would be his greatest contribution to the industry!

I've heard the story of the initial purchase of the bull from John and/or Chris Christensen more than once.  I can't remember all of the details, but one of those two men could give you a good/great history on 734.  Something to the effect of they were looking for a red polled PB bull to bring home, but he went for too much $$$.  John decided to buy this ugly, white faced, white stockinged, horned, black bull for not a whole lot of $$$.  It caused some members of the family to scratch their heads when the bull was unloaded, but it seems as if it has worked out alright.  Again, this is just what I can recollect, there are a lot of details that I can't remember... Someone really should get the story of 734, along with a select cut of other bulls, down on paper so that future generations will know where they came from.

It looks like breaking the brackets down by breeds is the fans favorite so far. Now the question is which 8 breeds/classifications do we use:

Angus Bulls
Simmental Bulls
ShortHorn Bulls
A.O.B Bulls

Clean Maines “TH & PHA Free”
Dirty Maines “carriers”
or just
Maines

09 bulls of denver
Clubbies
Old School Bulls
Chianina
Clones
Charolais
Herefords

Give me some feed back on which ones you think should be in the 8 breeds/classifications

Also feel free to nominate your own breed or classification.

Do to the length of the tournament we need to keep the field to around 64 head so keep that in mind when deciding which 8 breeds/classification you would like to see used.

Get rid of the Chi's and old school bulls.  There are only a couple Chi's that wouldn't be called clubby so put them in the AOB.  As far as old school bulls I would just put them in their respective breed division.

I wouldn't worry about clones either as their is only a handful of them at stud.

Just have one Maine division.  If you sort them by defect status you would have to do the same with the shorthorns.

Angus
Simmental
Shorthorn
Maine-Anjou
Charolais
Herefords
AOB
Clubbies

clones wouldn't be needed as the original should work just fine in its respective breed

Well it looks like the Breed/Classifications will be:
“not in any order”
Angus
Simmental
Shorthorn
Maine-Anjou
Charolais
Herefords
Clubbies
A.O.B

If we can not get at least 8 nominations for any of these Breeds/Classification I will put them into the A.O.B classification.
The alternate Breed/Classifications in order will be:
Old School Bulls
09 Bulls of Denver
Clones

Stangs:
Be sure to nominate the Brangus and Simbrahs bulls for the AOB.
Any Bull or breed is welcome.

I will be posting nomination threads soon so be thinking of which bulls you would like to see in the 09 Steer Planet Bull Bracket.

Maybe put the Brangus, Simbrah and other American breeds in a ABC class like the steers are if there is not 10 in there respective breeds.

Are we having a vote or a TJLA show. That's what they do with the Americans that have not been classified American's.
