When this all started, I wondered what I would do near the end. This was easy, the hard votes for me came early on. It's been fun.

Meyer's legacy is females.  He can't sire a steer and the jury is still out whether he has sired a son as good as he was.

Who Made Who has sired steers, market heifers, breeding heifers, powerful cows and there are several bulls out there with Who either on the top or bottom side.

Both are great bulls, but Who has impacted more facets of showcattle than Meyer.  I don't think it should be even be close.  You could have made a better arguement for Cunia vs. Who than Meyer vs. Who.

I love Meyer and you find him in a lot of our herd, but I voted for Who because of the ability to sire both males and females.

I understand what you guys are saying, from a showman's standpoint. But for me there is one very important difference. It is rare for Meyer to sire or pass on to his progeny a crippled animal. This can't be said of Who and his decendants. I hope the day will come when we as show stock producers can realize how important sound cattle are. JMHO.

Good job NASC, I think you can tell by the bulls that made it through as it went that there are more clubbie breeders on the board than purebred breeders. There were some very, very good PB bulls that bit the dust B/C of the voter's preferences. Just like another election held this fall. Brent

I absolutely agree. IMHO, 6807 got beaten up pretty good in his round. BTW, anyone have any idea what DHD Traveler semen is going for now?

I think we should do it again, but with two seperate brackets.  One for Purebreds and another for clubbies.  It is too hard to compare an animal such as EXT to Heat Wave or whatever...

you did an excellent job! I'm sure it took a lot of your time. From votes, it seems to have been very well received.

He sired a steer that was either Grand or Reserve at Fort Worth back in the mid 90's.  He also sire the 1st steer to be grand prospect both days at the OK beef expo.

2008 Steer Planet Bull Bracket Recap

For starters I would like to thank everyone who participated in nominating & voting in the first ever Steer Planet Bull Bracket. I was really hesitant in even trying such a task and wondered if we would even have enough interest to get 64 bulls nominated, boy was I wrong! When the nominations closed we had over 200 bulls mentioned and needless to say I had to make a few cuts. So like at every show there were a few good ones not used and folks wondering what the judge/Nasc was thinking  I would also like to thank the web sites I linked to during the contest. I especially found Cattle.com to be a very informative site when it came to getting those hard to find photo’s and pedigree’s. Lastly I would like to thank the moderators/owners of Steer Planet for providing us with a forum in which a contest like this could take place.

Enough with the pleasantries……………….

The bracket started with four Play-In match-ups. I just couldn’t decide on the last four spots in the Tournament so I decided to go with a field of 68 instead of 64. In this round we had Dirty Hairy, New Look 101, Saughatchee and Grizz all winning and advancing to the field of 64

Round #1 went pretty well as expected except for the following lower seeds beating their higher ranked opponent
Remitall Online beat Alias
EXT beat Strictly Business
OCC Emblazon beat Double Vision
Draft Pick beat Direct Hit
DeBull beat Manchild

Round #2 we had three seeding upsets in this round
Chill Factor beat Sugar Ray
OCC Emblazon beat Double Stuff
Northern Improvement beat Trump

Round #3
Northern Improvement beat Dream-On

Round #4
Cunia up-ended HeatWave

Round #5 “Final Four”
Who Made Who beat Heatseaker
&
Meyer 734 beat Cunia

Round #6 “Championship”
Meyer734 beat Who Made Who

Other Bull Bracket Talking points:

The following match-ups were nip & tuck till the voting closed:
Gizmo 35 over Jakes Proud Jazz 34,
OCC Emblazon 36 over Double Stuff 34,
Ali 41 over Witch Doctor 40,
&
Sonny 42 over Ali 40
Full Flush & EXT had our only regulation tie at 36. In the overtime Full Flush pulled another 36 while EXT could only manage 33

Every Tournament has a Cinderella and the Bracket has three to choose from:
OCC Emblazon
#12 seed in the South East Bracket
Made to the round of 16 by beating Double Vision & Double Stuff.
Lost to Heatseaker who made it to the final 4.

Northern Improvement
#7 seed in the South East Bracket
Made it to the last 8 by beating 8180 Traveler, Trump & Dream On
Lost to Heatseaker

Chill Factor
#6 Seed in the South West Bracket
Made it to the round of 16 by beating New Design 878, & Sugar Ray
Lost to Cunia Who was the South West Brackets final 4 representative

Trump was the first #2 seed to fall.

HeatWave was the only #1 seed not to make it to the final four.

For me the top surprises of the tournament were:
Heatwave not making the final four “Or winning for that matter”.
Sugar Ray losing in round #2.
The Hereford bull Remitall Online beating the Clubby Bull Alias
Sonny being the only ShortHorn to make a nice Tournament run.
