We had a really nice Eye Candy steer last year.  After about 1100 lbs he went off feed.  We tried everything.  He ended up about 1300 lbs at Tulsa.  He won his class but didn't have enough cover.  Best disposition EVER.  I cried when we left hm.  He was a big baby.

Eye candy calves look good as babies, typically though that's about it. The statement you heard was true. Don't grow into those powerful steers usually, there have been a ton of babies sold and they usually just end up at county fairs. There's reasons the big steer guys stay away from him. Heifers are usually nice though.

When he was cheap he got bred to everything, but now he is 150 a unit he is getting flushed to those good power cows.  I think this is why you are seeing his steers winning a lot this year. I think the Galloway in him makes his steers finish a little earlier and the heifers a little narrow through the pins; however, when bred to the right cow you won't find much better. Saw the Manning heifer show a few weeks ago and WOW!

There are certainly way better options out there for way better prices. And better feeding type steers too.

My kids showed two Eye Candy steers the past two years and both did exactly what others are saying. They both looked great and very powerful as young calves but as they got older they seemed to looser their power and then go off feed around the 1100 mark. Bother were very dostile, big pets. Can't say to much bad things about Eye Candy though cause my son's steer won his class and made the sale at OYE last year. Just lacked the power to really make some noise. Also, both seemed to have good front ends when they were younger but both ended up with pretty plain front ends when they were older.

The 25% Galloway blood in Eye Candy's calves must be powerful stuff.

It sounds like his steers are feeding just like Galloway steers...less time on feed, 1100-1200 lb live weights, carcass qualities, high yielding.  Probably won't put on the backfat, that is just wasted feed anyway.

Females being good.  Galloways are a maternal breed.

Not sure I agree with the narrow pin set being attributed to Galloway blood, I will give you sloped tailheads, but narrow?

Just my observations.
