Had a situation last year were I sold a calf. When I sold the calf I asked about where I send the registration papers. The buyer said not to worry about it. 6 months later after the buyer resold the calf for a large profit I get a text from them stating the person who purchased the animal wants papers and because I raised the calf it falls on me. I reminded them that they did not want it in the fall when the calf was sold. in the end, I got the calf registered (my membership had expired with the assc. after the first of the year, so i had extra cost in renewing my membership fee as well as additional cost for registering the calf after it was a year old). I avoided any conflict with the first person who bought the animal and then resold though my blood was boiling because I feel they did this so they could avoid paying any transfer fees, etc. was I over reacting in losing my temper over the situation? Any opinions on how it should have been handled to begin with?

I would of told them if they wanted to get it reg. that they would now need to pay all cost  (including your membership).

I'm getting a little harder to get along with in my old age, why go out of your way.  You don't know what, where,  who, or anything else on the resale.  New buyer wants the papers, he more than able to contact you directly.  Guy I the middle screwed you once, why do you think he's done?

Yeah I would have told the guy who originally bought the calf from you, "yeah, I"ll register the calf for another $200." That is what it will cost you in fees and time to get it done.

I'm not taking your buyers side because he's an a-hole but...

If you are a breeder you pay membership dues every year and once their check clears I transfer papers, even if they say they don't need them, they can throw them away if they want.  It's good customer service and cheap insurance against future problems.

Why is making a profit "Screwing" someone. The middle man laid out the cash and took all the risk.  I am sure both parties agreed on the original deal and unless you are eating them, all cattle are going to be re-sold at sometime so factor in the risk and reward with every agreement. Also, learning the power of "No" will reduce a lot of stress in your life.

The middle man sold a calf, some calf, any calf to some kid in no telling where, with a birthdate, a pedigree, a guarantee, of no telling what and I'm supposed to guarantee his guarantee???

Yeah, I'm all in on that, and when the kid wants his money back because the calf won't breed, or turns out to be a daughter of the gert bull and some heinz 57 cow,  I'm the typical club calf seller, just a soupped up con artist.
