I have a February born steer who got pretty good scours. I took him off the little bit of grain he was getting and he’s been getting just hay for the last 4 days. I’ve gave him pro bios. And some other probiotics but he hasn’t improved at all, and maybe even gotten worse. What can I do to get him back to normal?

Just keep giving him electrolytes that should help if not talk to your vet
He’s been doing great and doesn’t seem sick at all but we just can’t get rid of these scours. We’ve been giving him some Synurgy by Umbarger and that helps quite a bit and then by when we feed him again he’s back to having bad scours.

Vets just said to take him off grain for 5 days, which we did and made things worse

For our show calves, we've had success using Pepto-Bismol for scours. It's something my grandpa has done since I was a kid, so we’d just grab a large pack from Sam's and use it. While the doses can vary based on what you find online, general guidance suggests about 1 teaspoon per 20 lbs of body weight, or around 3-4 oz for calves, repeated every few hours. For a typical newborn calf, which usually weighs around 75 lbs, we'd give about 4 teaspoons. It’s been a reliable go-to for us, and it might help you out as well.

I’ll definitely keep that in mind for next time!! We’ve done it with lambs before.

Turns out if he’s eating just hay he gets super bad scours. And if he’s eating a bunch of grain he’s fine. Doesn’t make sense at all but whatever works I guess 🤣
