Farnam sells a No-Fade Ink Marker, I think at one point it was called a Z-Tag marker.  Works well for us.

I think your steer looks really nice. I also think he will improve in his butt and flank as he gains weight. In this area when the heat rises, weight gets harder to put on.  It's much easier to shrink than to want more weight at the end. Good Luck.

I would highly recommend if you have a cow with a uterine prolapse to be very carefull. When the uterus hangs out it can put a lot of pressure on the uterine artery.
