    Maine Anjou------What's up?

I attended The Iowa Beef Expo Maine sale yesterday. Not a fact, just my observation, but the quality was way down, as were the bull prices. What has happened with the Maine breed to cause the commercial man to back off in these good times for the cattle industry ?  Or is this just an Iowa...

Looking for a "good" feed ration that utilizes commodity feed ingregients

I don't know where you are located, but I believe you should get in touch with New Balance  Commodities in Nodaway, Iowa. I can get you a phone number. They provide an excellent product for feeding cattle of all classes.

    Question For Angus Breeders

The bull you called Sport, could that have been Super Sport ? I think you might have just made it possible for me to sleep tonight. Thank you.

    Question For Angus Breeders

The reason that I asked the original question was because I remember a great show bull from that era that was later tested and found not to be pure angus. I have since learned that Power Play was tested and found pure. Does anyone remember the bull that tested out? Was it possibly a bull named...

    Question For Angus Breeders

Yesterday at the Iowa Beef Expo, I looked at an Angus bull with PS Power Play in his pedigree. Is PS Power Play the good show bull from the early 1970s ? Can one of you good Angus people tell me what you remember about this bull ?

    yellow fat?

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't yellow fat more common in aged cattle such as cows, as compared to young grain fed slaughter cattle ?

    Club Calf Bulls

The bull is a monkey mouth carrier. Now that I have ruined the thread, I'll add that Ben Kelly had a real nice Point Taken heifer on his sale, and Wayne and Barb Ohlrich had a good pair of bulls on their sale. I would say that if you can live with the monkey mouth, he will produce some good ones.

    milking question

If the cow is willing to let a poor starving little bummer suck, what is to say she won't let a fat healthy one suck, or even a yearling heifer? I have seen it happen. Just a thought.

    Question on Sooner-Maine Anjou bull

I personally don't care for the Sooner bull, but it is not my intent to bad mouth him. I have seen a few really good animals sired by him. At the same time I have seen some very plain ones. I base a lot of my opinion on the fact that his semen has not been available to the general public. For...

    Clubby heifers and the Lautners

I'll speak first to the heifers. In that regard, I would have to know how the heifers are bred before I make my final decesion. Lautners handle a lot of good bulls that excel in different areas. I might also say that they handle some bulls that are not so good, and a lot that are far from...

    GWS/SCF Rendition

I want to bump this topic up because I have a nephew who raises Simmys, and he believes this bull is the real deal. I am interested also.

Best New MATERNAL BULL @ 2011 NWSS

I have not seen the bull, only the video, and I didn't go to Denver, but from his pedigree I would have to give my vote to Long Time Coming. I hav always liked Friction, and the combination with 734 really turns me on. Can't wait to see his calves.

    Denver Bulls 2011

I am going to shoot my mouth off at the risk of pissing some people off. Sorry. Some friends and I looked at 2 of the top 5 bulls a week or so before Denver, and before they were clipped out. We saw what we felt were serious soundness issues with one of the top 5 bulls. He also just did not look...

    Sale Catalog's

It is just my opinion, but I believe a well done catalog can make the seller a lot of money. A good case for that would be the catalog for Hoover Angus Farms. They put a lot of time and effort into their catalog. They give good information about the animals and their history of production. They...
