    Half chute preference?

Just curious, what are chutes like those worth new these days?

Need help with a weaning problem

Quiet weans are what we use to wean our calves now. Plastic clips that go in the nose like a ring but not permanent. A flap prevents the calf from sucking. Here's a link: http://www.quietwean.com/

    Ringworm

Scrape it down first. Covering it up is the main thing so the fungus gets no air. Any type of oil, Koppersol, or toothpaste works great too!

    Halter Breaking Headache

I don't know who you are or your physical attributes (so don't get mad too at my suggestion) but if you are a smaller person, I suggest getting a larger person to try holding her and lead/scratch while using all their might to keep her head up. Seems like a no-brainer but sometimes more muscle...

    Calculating Epd's

Hate to be "that guy", but EPD's and EBV's are all estimates. You never really know what an animal is going to pass onto its offspring. I'm all for using EPD's, but as a guideline rather than something to rely on for future calves. I understand what you are getting at Jeff and that its term...

    Wood Shavings

Wondering if anyone has ever had to source wood shavings in bulk form. I am looking for a supplier, located in Manitoba, Canada or within reasonable distance. Also, if anyone has bought shavings in bulk form, what prices were like, etc. Thanks in advance.

    Distillers Grains

I am doing a paper on inclusion of ddgs in beef cattle diets at the moment, and here are a few papers I have read through. Most data has been done on feeder and finisher calves, but some work with cow/calf operations. http://www.animal-science.org/content/early/2007/12/21/jas.2007-0550.full.pdf...

    Distillers Grains

It really depends on why your feeding it: as an energy source or as a protein source. Producers are feeding it for both reasons. If for an energy source, I think the optimal level has been determined anywhere from 10-50% of the diet on a dry matter basis. Its a great substitute, but consistency...

    What the wind does

Wind can be very helpful in certain situations but I can't stand those days where it makes working just impossible. Had corrals fences blow over twice this spring and an old steel bin picked up and moved due to it. Very frustrating.

    Cows do the darnedest things...

I gotta think that there's regulations against cattle having access to areas that are being constructed such as this, or vice-versa. Or was this a matter of them saying its safe to let your cows back in and not telling you about an open trench?

    2011 pasture pics

Sounds good! The heifer calf is out of a 5/8 shorthorn, 3/8 main cow. Her sire is a purebred shorthorn bull who's grandsire is Dunbeacon Venture.

Here is a couple pictures of Saskvalley Transport 399T, one of our herdsires. The next few are some commercial prospects.

    Posting pictures

I got around the file size by resizing the pictures earlier today but when I attach and try to post, after uploading, it takes me to a blank screen :-\ . I'll try again tomorrow if all else fails.

    gigelo joe

No big ones yet for us. Breed him to shorthorn crosses so the odd red one has come out, but also some good blues!
