Have you bought any grooming supplies at your Walmart?

Pink, shaving cream, and letric shave. I like the pink you buy at walmart better than sullivans, it doesn't seem to be as oily and weigh the hair down as much not to mention the price difference. Shaving cream is similar to sullivans mousse just a lot cheaper. Letric shave is good for cutting...

    Clipping calves

Color really isn't that big of a deal, but quality of hair makes a huge difference. One of my buddy's would always say "I can turn money into gold, but I can't turn s**t into money". My biggest pet peeve is when you tell a kid plenty of time in advance what time you'll be there and you show up...

    American Steer Enough Character?

I think he'll have enough navel and leather to class.

    Fitting your animal.

I would hire a fitter the first few times if I were you. I like that you want to learn, but I don't know that watching some videos is the best way to get your start in fitting. The best thing is if you can find someone to teach you. I hired fitters for years and would always watch them, and then...

any fitters in south texas, Corpus Christi area

I'm almost 450 miles to the NE near Tyler so I don't know that I can be of any help as far as coming to clip goes, but I'll be at Ft. Worth and Houston if you need any fitting. I may be able to put you in touch with some people in the San Antonio area if that's not too far away.

    Fitters??

I don't think there is anything wrong with it. We hired fitters for several years until I got good, and now I do our cattle as well as other people's for both open and junior shows. I hate the not fair argument about hair. People with coolers have an advantage over people that don't, but coolers...

are there any custom fitters anymore?

There are a lot in the Brahman breed. They run about $10-$15/day at home and shows can really vary, but all expenses are always billed out.

Has anyone ever used Mane &tail growth (mtg) on a tailhead

Yeah, it works great. I wish you could use it one their whole body. It's kind of a pain in the butt to deal with, but just follow the instructions. That stuff works!!

    Bucket Heaters before fitting

If its cold there will be lots of people using them. You have to be careful about not letting them touch the heater and blow up. At fort worth it's against the rules to "heat" adhesives, paints, etc... because of safety reasons.

    College Majors???

I would stay away from "Ag" Business and "Ag" Communications. Switch to Communications, and take ag classes for your electives. That's pretty much what an Ag Comm degree is anyways. The reason I say that is because you'll give yourself more opportunities that way. The agriculture industry makes...

    Opinions on heifer?

Like everyone has already stated, time on feed and a clip job will change her. She's pretty plain though, you take typical herd cows and you get a typical show heifer. There's nothing wrong with her, but I don't see her blowing away the competition and taking home the purple every time.

    Texas showers, please help!

In my experiences over the years San Antonio has always been the most logical group of people to deal with. I'd just have your ag teacher or extension agent call the livestock office. Tell them that your county fair has a scramble, you caught last year, and you have to be there  ;D

    Andis 5-speed clippers

Their worth every dollar!! They feel great, and will make a set of 2 speeds feel like a brick in your hand. Dealing with the different speeds has never been a problem for me. If you every forget what speed your in you can just run it up(or down) and then count accordingly. I bought them not...

best way to get dead broke claves to walk

Haha I have actually...It'll take you to your knees if you shock yourself in the leg. Its just a short zap and I always laughed. I'm 200lbs and the calf I used it on was 1400 so there's no way it could hurt as bad. To each his own though.  (thumbsup)

best way to get dead broke claves to walk

Its just a 9 volt handheld. Just enough to put a little pep in their step.

best way to get dead broke claves to walk

We had a calf EXACTLY like that last year. We always kept a little handheld hot shot in the show box and would give her a few zaps on the walk to the ring.

Shift in Texas Major Steer Show Schedules

I know Houston changed up their heifer show too. It's always been during spring break week and now its a week earlier and a day shorter.
